So how many calories DO you eat in a day?

I decided to add it up, so far today I've had:

1 small pepperoni pizza: 1280 calories
1 large sprite: 200 calories
4 cookies: 140 calories each
6 cups of water: 0 calories

So, I'm at about 2040 calories so far today.

Of course, I haven't really had anything counting as dinner yet.... we'll see if I eat anything else. So far this is fairly typical for a day up to this point, though.

I took a nutrition class in college and I varied between 3000 and 4000 calories... Of course, that's when I'm working out a lot.

"im 6' 220. NOT FAT. just a big dude"

Uhmm . . . it sure sounds fat to me. I mean, you can be thick boned, but 220 still contains fat.

Good question, Not Fred. I calculated my average calories about two years ago during my nutrition class. I forget now. I don't want to do it.

Basically, it varies for me. I just follow what my body asks for, how much and at anytime of the day. I'm addicted to candies though. I'm improving now. Before the time of the month: I probably have just like at most two meals and some snacks. Adds up to one normal full meal often, except it's split into like 4 places or so? I just don't feel really hungry in most cases.

However, when it's that time of the month, I eat a little impulsively. Basically up to like 8 times in a day (not full meals) with not much space left in between. I also tend to snack a lot during this period.

I'm sorry I couldn't calculate my calories. I'm 6' 1" and weigh 133/135 Lbs on average.

How can you count your calories/vitamin intake? Like I've always wondered if I were to stick to a meal plan that was nutritious, how would I know how much sodium, potassium, etc I just ate in that serving?

Simms, there are different ways. But one way would be to find a chart containing foods and calories they contain per grams. Actually, the manufacturers usually have calories per serving. Look there too. Then do the multiplications and additions.

It varies from day to day, sometimes it is like 6000-7000 other days it is 1000-2000, it all depends on how hungry I am.

Concidering how much pop I used to drink, probably 2000 calories of just pop. I havce since cut 100% of that out, so I am probably around 1500-1900 or so now.

What I had today:
3 blo-pops (40 cal each)
2 liters of diet coke (yep, all 2 liters) zippo calories
6" spicy italian sub from subway (600 Calories)
2 pieces of sausage pizza. (500 calories each) (estimate)
I plan on havnig a can of non-diet pepsi in just a moment. (180 calories)

That puts me at about 1900 for the day.

Hmm. That's a lot of effort for one meal. I guess that's what they mean by working hard at it? Oh, and... like if I eat something without a label, for example, a banana, any fruit or some meat/fish, how am I supposed to know that? I realize they're all approximations but ...

And there was a thread.. about a guy who worked out, and got tanned etc (too lazy to find thread) but I noticed he also recorded other values aside from calories (eg: sat. fat, total fat, carbs, etc.) Where do these values come from (assuming I'm not eating from a labelled container/package?)

I was shocked to find I consume roughly 3-3.5k calories per day. Then again I am very active. Plus some days I forget to eat all my meals so it might drop to about 2.5k

Wait till (most of) you poor guys make that magic metabolism turn in your early 30's that requires you to either use a lot more calories, or take in a lot less calories to maintain your weight.

Buy a chart that contains vegetables and other foods and their respective calories. It comes close to getting the precise detail.

Is this the forum you had in mind: Lost Weight.

Hope that helps.

Hopefully this is available online. I'll try to google it. :)

The manufacturers usually have the complete calories per servings. Then they proceed to break it into fat, carbs, protein, etc. and how much calories they contain. Next the vitamins obtained and how much is applicable to the recommended intakes by the FDA. Just look at the packet/box containing your foods/ingredients, as you can find them there.

I think today I ate around 1000 calories .... besides, those guys who are eating all your calories in pizza and coke ... that's really not a good idea. I'd rather eat 3000 calories of nutritious food than 2000 of fat.

I used to eat a LOT of calories while losing weight, mostly from fat while I avoided carbs. Fat is very high in calories but if you don't eat carbs you'll have to burn fat. Worked for me, I lost 50-60 lbs.

PS- Don't forget that not all calories you consume are absorbed. If you eat mostly fat and whole grains, much will pass through you. On the other hand if you mostly eat simple carbs like sugar, they'll get digested and absorbed very fast and you'll get fat.

Here's something to keep in mind:

1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories
1 gram of protein = 4 calories
1 gram of fat = 9 calories
1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories

As you can see, fat contains more than twice as many calories as carbohydrate. But when I replaced my carbohydrate intake with fat and protein, although my caloric intake increased I lost weight.
