Anyone running this yet?

After the disappointing new Need For Speed Undercover, i wouldnt mind a good arcade racer for the pc to kill time between RPGs.

I played Burnout 3 Takedown on xbox upon its release and loved it.

Any opinions on how Paradise stacks up against takedown?

This is a great port to PC. The 360 controller works flawless and the game itself is a blast! The only thing i dont like is the buried menu options. To change your res and other settings, press ESC then F2 twice.

Paradise is different than Takedown. Paradise is more of an open world, wherease Takedown is a series of discrete missions strung together. One thing missing from Paradise is Crash Mode, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Otherwise, I have found Paradise to be more fun than previous iterations. YMMV.

"Unlike in previous Burnout games, Crash Mode, now called Showtime, can now be started at any time and place in the game; though Showtime mode is rather different from the usual Crash Mode."

Thank you for reinforcing my point. :)

The one thing I bought Paradise for, thinking it was like previous Burnouts, was the awesome Crash Mode missions. Started playing the game and realized Paradise doesn't even have it! Yeah, the Showtime is not very fun at all and completely different from previous iterations of Crash Modes. Oh well, the rest of the game is still enjoyable...

Ok, i finally tried it.

Im not so sure i like the open world vs takedowns "event map" type selections for each specific race type.

Also, this game needs a better navigation system BADLY.
"You are here, race to here." Yet getting from here to there can turn into a loss with a single wrong turn.
I find myself watching the mini map out of the corner of my eye while racing, and when i see intersections, i have to pause the action and look at the map to be sure i make the right decision at intersections so i dont make a race losing worng turn.

It really takes you "out of the gameplay" , since instead of concentrating soley on the event, you're constantly forced to "pause and check the map"

Now if you're the type of person who can memorize this entire map and dont need to do this, i applaud your memory and navigation skills and wish i had them.

I wish they'd port Takedown to the pc.

yeah, the lack of direction is another reason i didn't like it.

No waypoints was so useful. It made you learn the map which helped excessively in races.

It is not all that hard

In the beginning i did indeed feel lost, no sense of direction. But as i started learning the city and the quickest routes from A to B, the game suddenly grew on me. Now its just plain fun tho still sometimes frustrating when i miss a turn I should have taken but the game feels so blistering fast that its hard to see when to make the turn. Also cuz its so dang fast, many times i just close my eyes and chance it that you wont run into a car as you fly over an uphill jump.

The game overall is fantastic tho. The missions get progressively harder and you win more races. You go from novice to class B to class A then to elite license. Atm i made it to the class A license and to get the elite license you need to win 109 events. So it will keep me busy for a while.

I also noticed the diff between the ps3 version and this PC version is that i can see things better on my lcd screen in higher res, which means i can spot a upcoming car better and make adjustments. I was about to give up on Paradise on the ps3 version cuz it just felt everything was a gamble, no chance to react without crashing. Maybe its just me.

I still recommend the PC version over the ps3 but thats my opinion. I havent even touched MP online yet as i just want to play casually thru the solo game first.

I'm guessing the turn signals on the car were meant to help you take the correct route without having to pause the action and take you "out of the game".

But that method doesnt work very well, because you're usually going to fast to have time to react to the late turn signal.

Honestly, i'd like it much more if i had the option to turn on a directional arrow so i could concentrate on the event im in and other vehicles instead worrying about missing an important turn.

Same here. Is there a game out there for us? Something more realistic than this but still open world like need for speed most wanted?

Maybe I should just go re-install most wanted..

i liked most wanted as well. i did not like grid because it was too realistic or too unforgiving.

Cool, a couple of Most Wanted fans.
I thought i was the only one. :D
I thought all the NFS "undergrounds" were a step backwards for the series.

I love to see another NFS like Most Wanted, Porshe Unleashed or like the original NFS on the 3DO.
