How is 800x600 on a laptop? I'm thinking of one that has a 13" screen, but the max res is only 800x600. I don't know if I can handle that, I'm used to 1152x864 on 19", and I love my screen space. Can anyone give me any opinions as to how they like the resolution? I know that when I see a monitor running 800x600 I can't stand it, don't know if it will be different on a lappy though, any thoughts?

What do you do with it? For me personally, I would run linux and have a virtual desktop of 1280 by 960 or so, and have 6 desktops. I like a LOT of screen area. :)

virtual desktop = one of those screens that isn't the actual full screen, but when you drag the mouse down to the bottom the screen follows the cursor?

no offense, but no thanks :D

Anyone else have opinion about how good it would be for this 800x600 on 13" lappy screen?

I personally don't have a problem with that resolution on the laptop I'm presently using to send this reply!

Bah.. those resolutions make me feel clausterphobic..
I used to use a laptop with a 14.5" display at 1024X768 and that was the freakin' limit that I could take. Of course, I was trying to run Photoshop, Illustrator, windows explorer and a browser window too... not to mention winamp on top of that...

About as good as a swift kick in the berries.

J/K. :)

It's not that usable. 1024x768 gives you quite a bit more usable desktop space. My 14.1" is 1400x1050 and I now have a difficult time going back to 1024x768.

You should probably go for at least XGA 1024x768. The other day when I was helping my friend re-install windows on her laptop I thought that the 13" 800x600 was really big and didn't have much room. Of course that could just be, because I am used to the 14" 1024x768 screen on my laptop and the 1280x1024 that I run my 19" monitor.

It's easy on the eyes at that resolution, but you will be craving more screen space. Is it a passive matrix LCD? You may not like those screens either, they tend to wash out. Most 13" TFT LCD's have a resolution of 1024x768. Depending on how much video memory is available, you can set the resolution higher than 800x600, but you will have to "pan" around the screen to see it all.

yeah that's true.. I've used Linux before just to fiddle around... but then again Windows can also do this with Litestep... or instead of switching to a new desktop, Alt+Tab through the programs it seems just the same to me :D

Note I have nothing against Linux in fact I like it, but for me it is more sensible to use Windows *most* of the time, and Linux for play or c++, etc., development

Unless "3D Pinball" is the extent to which you are planning on using your computer, anything less than 1024x768 is tortuous, including on laptops. And unless your a masochist, do yourself a huge favor and get a screen in the XGA->UXGA range.

Wife has a Sony SR series w/ only 10.2" screen, she is using 800X600 which seems to be okay.

Yes, lots good suggestions here, but if you really like to find out how it looks...
go to your local BESTBUY or CompUSA store and play around their 13" labtop and find out. ;)

well basically it boils down to, if I don't like it then you may be seeing it here on FS/FT very soon :D just have to wait until it arrives here so I can give'er a whirl.. if it's not for me then somebody will be getting a good deal, 'cause I'll just sell for what I paid for it so I can get something else :)

i have a toshiba portege, 11.3 inch screen. 1024x768. i've got other laptops with 800x600, and its still useable, you just have to get used to it.

i used my laptop on a 21" monitor dock thing. its still at 1024x768. depends how many windows you like using i guess.
