so, how fragile are lower end DSLRs? (t2i, etc.)

i'm reading a ton of reviews comparing the t2i to the 7d and i keep seeing this reoccurring theme of: 7d has a better body build and holds up the elements better. is this to say the t2i cannot handle a misty breeze, light snowfal, moisture, are maybe a little dirt? or does this mean the 7d can handle some rain while the t2i needs to have a bag over it?

just curious because i want to do a lot of outdoor photography...

I've used an XTi quite a bit in the past & just bought a T2i last night.

The T2i seems to be very similar in build to the XTi & I know that camera's been used in all sorts of weather from snowy winters in North America to humid summers in India (short of standing directly in the rain or burying it in the snow) & it's still working fine today.

I don't expect the T2i to be any different. I guess this goes for the 18-55 mm kit lens & the 70-300mm no IS lens.

for the average user i'm sure its fine. just don't drop it, and don't pick up and hold any of the xxD or xD cameras or look thru their viewfinders because they'll make the rebel feel like a toy. Otherwise its a wonderful camera when not compared to its bigger brothers...a T2i most certainly can not do this

wow, I'm surprised the 7D could even handle that.

My Nikon D40 feels surprisingly solid, but I have not yet seen fit to test it. If it breaks I will go right out and buy another low end SLR. I see no need to move up to a higher model yet.

This is the reason I sold my XTi for a 30D, I'm glad I did!

Wouldnt want to try this on my T1i.

The T2i will likely handle the situations described in the OP with no problems at all. The higher end bodies are definitely built to handle extreme situations but for the average hobbyist I don't think the T2i would ever have any issues.

Yeah, the entry level cams will generally hold up to non-extreme conditions. My Pentax K7, and other cams with solid builds and sealing can literally be used in the shower, buried in the snow, etc...

My Canon 300D works as well as the day I bought it. But I've never tried to use it in a downpour.
