I don't know anything about video cameras, and I don't have much use for one as a recent college graduate, but a small hd camera for around $200 seems like a fun purchase.

I recently ran into an article about the Flip UltraHD which got me thinking about it. The article said its a pretty awesome camera for what it is, but I don't really know what else is out there. I saw in kaido's thread it compared the old version to the vado and kodak, which he seemed to prefer, but not sure how this new flip compares. I'm also not sure what other new stuff might be out/coming out.

Any advice about these camcorders?

The Vado produced better picture quality and had a wide-angle lens (fit more into the picture), but the Kodak was way more convenient to work with (standard SD memory card and standard AA batteries). Here's a decent article on the new Flip UltraHD:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...0/AR2009043000354.html

They said it's an improvement over the original Flip and has a wider-angle, although the Vado HD has a wider-angle lens than the UltraHD does. It uses standard AA batteries and has 8 gigs of memory onboard, but still no expandable memory slot. They said the 2x digital zoom was smoother than on any other pocket cam, for whatever that's worth.

To me, the Vado HD still looks like the best buy if you want maximum picture quality. My only gripe with these mini cameras is that there is NO image stabilization, so any handheld footage will be extremely shaky. Definitely get a tripod or mini-tripod (I recommend the Gorillapod, it's a flexible mini-tripod).

i have a mino HD and i really like it
i bought a wide angle filter and a step down ring to glue to the front so i can get a wider viewing angle out of it

the quality of the video isn't as good as an HD camcorder, but its a lot better than the video from a p&s camera
