So how do you grip your steering wheel?

Driving position!

  • Classic two hands on the wheel, elbows bent near body

  • Two hands on the wheel, left elbow on the door

  • One hand on wheel, other hand on shift (regardless if you're driving stick or not)

  • Two hands on the bottom of the wheel

  • Two hands on the top of the wheel, gripped close together

  • One hand on the bottom of the wheel, other hand doing something else

  • I don't know how to drive

  • Other

The other day I noticed this one driver in the next car over who had his body turned completely over to his right, resting on his side as if he wanted to spoon the stick shift. One hand on the wheel the other with his phone alternating between talking into it and putting it back near his ear. I admit leaning to a side while driving but never turning my whole body!

Depends... usually slouched back with right hand at 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock.

Sometimes all sit up and rest my left elbow on the door and drive with my left hand at 9 o'clock.

Two hands are involved only when making sharp turns, but occasionally i'll just palm it.

One hand, usually between 11 and 1. Sometimes down at 6. I don't slouch too much. My right hand is on the shift more often than not ever since I learned how to drive stick a few years ago, even though mine is an auto.

whats with the abundance of lame threads asking how people do things?

How do you drink the milk in your cereal. Do you wait for the bowl to be empty? Do you drink a little at a time? Do you use a bowl with a straw built in?

I drive with my knees sometimes who cares as long and your holding tight.

Usually at the bottom with a free finger or two, alternating between hands as needed. Coordinating texting and driving ain't easy.

Is that you, Anand? No? Kindly shut the fuck up. It's an Off Topic thread. Relax and go eat your cereal.

That's the "Gangsta lean". It can also be called "going full retard".

I'm pretty much 10-2 or 9-3. You can't possible react properly with a loose one handed grip on the wheel. The lean thing is even more dangerous because it he needs to jerk the wheel to the left it will throw him right and his hands are now off the wheel.

Virtually always left hand between 11 and 1. The steering wheel is even coming apart there on one of my cars because its the only place my hand goes. Big turns involve "the crank".

Ehh, depends completely on the drive. If it's my usual boring stop. and go commute, I'll likely have just 1 hand on the wheel.

If there's a blizzard and I can only see 10 feet in front of me, I'll have hands at 10 and 2 if I'm moving, if I'm stuck in a traffic jam, going < 20mph ... then 1 hand on the wheel ..
