My nails are a mess too, I've probably been chewing on my nails since I was 7yrs old.

But I find myself only chewing on them when I'm not occupied doing something & I only catch myself after the damage has been done.
I thought about the nasty tasting nail polish but I don't want my nails to have a glossy look (even though that has to look better than the way they are now)
Maybe I'll try the lint thing, it work for me with caffeine & now I don't drink anything with it or desire to.

Any other suggestions from someone who's quit?

Tobasco sauce on the nails maybe? There is a product that's been mentioned, too, that you can brush on your nails to make them taste gross. Other than that, just try to be very aware and make yourself NOT bite them when your hand moves to your mouth.

Everyone keeps suggesting to do something to your nails to make them taste bad... Why not just wire your jaw shut, problem solved. Think outside the box

Why stop biting them? See, the trick is to just get to the point where you can stop before your nails are completely gone and all ripped to shreds and your fingers hurt. Plus if you learn to stop sooner your nails will seem to grow back faster.

It's hard as hell. I bite my nails but they aren't to the point of nothing being there. If you saw my nails you couldn't tell I bite them. I do often pick the sides of my skin near my nails until it bleeds. It's an annoying tic that I have -- I've done it all my life.
