So how about I get an EVGA 8600GT now and then upgrade in a few months when the 8800GT prices are better?

Your missing the fact that videocards are allready dirtcheap compared to a few months ago. You basicaly get GTX performance for 350$ with a 8800gts 512mb. You get better performance then a 8800gts 320mb for a lot less money, 220$ for a 8800gt 512mb compared to the 280-300$ you would have to pay for a 8800gts 320mb. Prices are frigging low, and waiting isn't going to lower them much. ATI put up some fierce competition with the HD3870 and yes, once again, prices are probably as low as they get.

Just get the cheapest 8800GT you can find. It's not worth the hastle in the end to get an 8600 now and an 8800 tomorrow. I got my BFG for $220 OTD at best buy -- I believe they still have a similar sale going on.

I laugh at people that put together high end computers with junk video cards. By the time 8800GT will be even cheaper than it is now, your high end rig? oops, not so high end any more!

IMO either buy all at once or build middle end.
