Not sure which place you're talking about. Toronto is a big place - a bazillion theatres - several million people live here. Are you sure it was even in Toronto, and not Mississauga or Markham or something?

Nice, but walking up stairs to get into the main floor of my house would drive me crazy

the most important question.... is it computer friendly? Can you have them pull Cat5 throughout?

NEVERMIND... I just 'read' your page. (I must learn to stop looking at just the pics) :(

. I asked for network cabling to be put in, but they wouldn't. >8^( So, I may go for a wireless network instead. [/i}

looks pretty nice eug, i like the spread out plans, one of my houses growing up had 5 stories as well, with only a bit on each. oh, and are you going to become an exhibitionist w/ that terrace in view of the condos?;)

Awesome EUG!

One question -- that is one kick-ass digital camera, how much did it cost and what brand was it? :)

From Eug's site:

<< P.S. For the photo geeks out there, the pictures were taken with a Kodak DC4800 digital camera. I had a wide angle lens attached that gave severe barrel distortion with the zoom at the widest settings. The first picture shows some of that barrel distortion. However, if you can believe it, the second picture of the front of the townhomes had MUCH worse barrel distortion, and since I was standing on the ground shooting upward it had severe perspective problems as well . Photoshop and Panorama Tools corrected the problems nicely >>

Eug,

I'll be up in Toronto in two weeks - I'll stop by your place (just kidding). I'll be @ Imperial Oil by the Ontario Science Center.

Your place looks great!

Thanks guys.

<< Wow those models are something else, very cool. >>

Yes, those models are tres cool. Now that the structure of the whole place has been built, I'm pleasantly surprised at just how accurate the model is. The main difference between the model and reality is in the model all the rooftop terrace access is via big transparent trap doors which double as sky lights. You can best see the trap doors in this model picture. However, for the places already built, a lot of them don't have that trap door, but instead have a little insulated shed like structure on the roof with a standard door (sort of like what you see in all those movies when they have a chase seen onto the roof). It reduces the terrace size a bit and you lose the skylight, but the benefit is you get some sheltered storage space up there too.

<< You are running the cat5 now whils its still being built, right? >>

No, and I am very annoyed. They won't put it in even though several people have asked for it. It wasn't in the original plans and they said they could not justify the added delay to the project. Ironically, I actually have about 1000 feet of CAT-5 sitting under my bed, because at work, the electricians were about to throw it away. It's in 100 ft strips - not of much use to them. I can't do it myself (not that I'd know what I'm doing) because for legal reasons they won't allow any non-site worker types into the place. It would also violate my warranty on the home, but when I offered to hire a professional they still would not allow it. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise, because I've always wanted a wireless network anyway.

Around here actually, networking is becoming a MAJOR selling point. In fact, there is a set of luxury condos going up nearby called CityPlace which is getting fibre-optic cabling throughout the entire complex and 100BaseT to every unit. :Q It's funny reading the Technology section about their condos - it reads more like a high-tech company's press release than anything. They even get set top boxes and wireless keyboards in EVERY unit with video on demand and all sorts of cool schiznit. They'll be paying up the yinyang for condo fees though. I'm guessing my condo fees will be a third of theirs, heheh. :p

<< One question -- that is one kick-ass digital camera, how much did it cost and what brand was it? >>

The digital camera is a 3 MP Kodak DC4800 as wje pointed out. It's pretty damn sweet. :D Those model pix were taken in TIFF mode (9 MB a shot), and then resized. You can also use JPEG (which I do most of the time) but the one problem I have is that the JPEG compression modes use a bit too much compression for my tastes. Most of the pix in JPEG mode are around 650 KB. I would have preferred about 1 MB although they're still pretty good, since the real pix were taken in JPEG mode. As for the barrel distortion, that's really a problem only if I have a the extra wide angle lens attached. I think the camera lists for $700 down there in Americaland.

Nice. That terrace is too cool.

I can't believe they won't even let a pro install wiring for you. IMHO, any new house should NOT be built without it.

What a drag.

Enjoy the new digs!
