So here's an idea on Disneyworld

How about finding a cheap place to buy in the Orlando area?

Then you have it for whenever you want to visit the park, and you can get a Florida resident annual pass if you spend the time there to get it.

The way to think of the cost is what you will sell it for versus what you pay for it, compared to if you were going to buy hotel nights to visit, plus the convenience and resident discount.

Wonder if it's feasible, what the best thing to get would be.

This idea doesn't make any sense. The cost of buying a house in Orlando is going to be significantly more expensive than the cost of staying in a hotel for a week, and the savings in ticket prices for a residential discount won't begin to cover the difference in cost until you're going to Disneyworld dozens of times per year, at which point you're obviously wealthy enough that the cost of a hotel is basically meaningless to you. I suppose you could get a summer home in Orlando specifically so you could take the family to Disneyworld regularly, but I don't think you can spin that as a "cost-saving" decision unless you get the slummiest thing you can find. How much is a decent family home in Orlando; $250,000? That's a hell of a lot of hotel stays.

Florida resident?

Im sure you can rent a room in some shack in some slum somewhere in the panhandle real cheap.

You really don't want to buy a timeshare knowing you're paying for all those people to get free trips...

You could buy a nice place and rent it out to vacationers when you're not using it.

I checked on that a little, and the feedback I got was that they're really hard to rent, and the only sensible plan is really to plan for it not renting.

It was a nice idea to have a rental that's profitable you can use on occassion, just not finding it viable so far.

Here's an idea on Disneyworld: Save yourself the money and hassle and go someplace more beautiful, fun, cost effective, and less crowded.

Even if you like Disney World, OP has given some terrible advice. Unless you plan on going to the same park(s) multiple times a year every year (another dumb idea) buying a place is really dumb.

The logical conclusion is to simply buy and sell your house every week, so that your net homeownership costs approximate zero (plus or minus weekly fluctuations over the course of a lifetime).

I think that I would try to cater to international visitors that would be more likely to rent it for at least a week. You could partner with some foreign travel companies and advertise on travel forums. I bet you could make it work with enough effort.

Two problems:

1) Simply having a house in Florida doesn't qualify you for Florida resident status. You have to have a Florida drivers license to get a resident pass at Disney.

2) Unless you and your family are armed at all times, you don't want that house on 18th St. That area and Pine Hills are two of the highest crime areas in Orlando.

It's so cheap, why buy property?

If you had to, suck up one of the Orlando timeshares...technically you can get free tickets just listening to them.

OP really loves Disney world. I'm more of a Sic flags man myself. One day I'll get a beautiful rancher near Six flags so I can go there whenever I want.

Agreed and let me add ... there are actually people foolish enough to even consider coming here to Disney World? I thought people had more sense than that.

It's not Pine Hills ... its CRIME Hills for a reason.

People actually wanting to visit DW and Alky's advice make a good mix. Listen to him, he MUST know of what he speaks.

Why the fuck would I want to visit Disney World when Disneyland is much closer...and has much better weather?

Lived in Orlando for 16 or so years. Lots of people do this, OP isn't gonna be able to.

DUD, do you hate Disney World? I once got three days free (actually about 2 days free once the presentation was done, but we ate nice and mingled with the people about all of our plights, we drove about 20 mins total).

I like the Orlando area for entertainment. I live 2 hours away. I like Sea World more than Disney.

The drawback to timeshares is the maintenance fees. Depending on the location and the size of the timeshare they can run from $1200 to $2500+ per week. It's quite the scam. You can stay on-property cheaper than that.

You actually enjoy Disney world so much you would consider buying a house near it to save on hotel costs?

I didn't even want to go to Disney world as a kid, the rides were all way to boring compared to Cedar Point or any of the other top parks for coasters. I guess it would be good if you like people walking around in costumes but I am pretty sure there are conventions for people that are into that which would be cheaper and involve less travel.
