So... has anyone with an x86 tablet tried Windows 8 CP?

Hi folks,

Despite all the controversy surrounding Win8, I've yet to see or hear about the experience of running it on an actual tablet. I'm not talking about an ARM/Tegra device, but a real x86 tablet, like the Acer Iconia Tab W500.

Any thoughts?

I've tried it on an old all in one PC and it was a weird experience... Not because of the OS itself but because of the bezel on the screen. Win 8 assumes you have no bezel so almost all of the side gestures required you to dig into the screen.

I wonder if the arm build would work on rooted android tablets.

I have a feeling it's going to be a complicated hack whenever WOA is released (Windows on ARM).
From the sounds of it, WOA will require a secure EFI, with no official option to install on a device without such. Great, Microsoft has followed the Apple approach. :(

There is the option of a secure EFI for x86, but it is not required.

My original plan: sometime this year get whatever the most powerful Android tablet was available (ultimately: waiting for Cortex A15 plus awesome GPU), and then dual-boot with Win8. I really like Metro but playing around with the Win8 CP, I can see that without a touchscreen, I imagine I'll only dip into Metro when necessary and likely stick to desktop apps - that and it appears Metro apps will be a lot more limited in functionality for power-users, so desktop apps will remain important for me. But on a tablet, having Windows on hand will be great, and will still allow me to have perfect Google integration with a simple reboot into Android.
But... it could be quite a mess as well. Might need to wait and see what Intel cooks up and how Android on x86 shapes up.
