Well at least it was after Christmas. Some old woman (late 70s) went through a stop sign and plowed into my 97 Explorer. Spun me around and then she hit the guy at the stop sign on the opposite side.
Maybe she thought it was a 4 way stop and took off as I got up to the intersection, I dunno. She hit pretty hard though, probably 20-25mph, no idea why she was going so fast from a stop. Hers was a Neon and hit real low. Knocked the frame and back axle crazy (both driver side doors wont close).
It doesn't really look bad at all, can't even tell unless you look below the door line. But if you compare wheel gap on both sides it's obvious, and you can't close the doors
Never had a bit of trouble out of it, got it from my grandmother, was in perfect shape and about 100k miles.
What was irritating was most of my Christmas stuff was for a carputer I was going to build in it. So while the presents aren't ruined, I'll have to do some adjusting now.
I guess they may repair it, but frame/axle damage on a 97 Ford doesn't seem realistic.
Granny had a granddaughter in the back not buckled up and had her baby in her lap. Neither were injured, but were freaked out (apparently they live in assisted living due to income and weren't sure what they were going to do).
So at least they weren't hurt. Neither was I. The police didn't even ask me what happened. Just took my license/insurance info, came back over and said her insurance was valid and I could pick up a copy of the report tomorrow (was obvious it would be impossible for me to be at fault).
So now I guess I have to start looking for a cheap sub $4k car, if I'm lucky enough to get that much for it. Have a Miata that I never drive, so may sell that to put towards something else.
Cliffs:
Granny runs stop sign
Granny kills my car, her car, and damages another guys
Christmas gifts for my carputer may change now
