Look, we passed the point of no return sometime back in the mid 20th century. We're not going to stop global warming by cutting emissions. We need to ENGINEER a solution -- be it from the things we've already started (like carbon sequestration) to the realm of borderline sci-fi (like orbital shades, which we could do, but it would be ridiculously expensive with current tech)

at least, according to the former head of the worldbank
if you want to help out, and cheaply, switch your bulbs to compact fluorescent. you can barely tell the difference between them and incandescent nowadays. only problem is they don't work with rheostats. due to the lowered electric bill and long life you'll come out ahead in terms of $$, and the rest of us come out ahead with lowered greenhouse emissions due to less pollution. you could make your money back in just a couple of months, depending on electric rates and usage. if everyone in the US switched to CF bulbs it'd be the equivalent of taking 3.5 million cars off the road.
keep your old bulbs for when you move and take your CF bulbs with you. recycle your CF bulbs (usually where you purchased them) as they contain trace amounts of mercury

Because global warming doesn't mean it's getting hotter everywhere. If that's what it meant, you wouldn't feel any difference anyway. But it is already apparent in climate changes like more precipitation in some places, less in others, more frequent tropical storms and hurricanes, etc.

Isn't global warming supposed to lead to melting ice, which leads to ocean currents getting messed up, which leads to an ice age?

If you mean Al Gore's movie, no I have never seen it. This was on the discovery channel I think. Supposedly this has happened before but not due to global warming exactly.

I love global warming. My winters have gotten better and better up here in Canada since we started that sh!t up. I could still use a few more degrees of warmth - SUVs for everyone!
