So Georgia could miss the SEC championship game but make the BCS title game?

All that needs to happen is Tennessee wins tomorrow and then Kansas/Missouri losing to Oklahoma and then for WVU to lose one of their next 2 games.

Who would have though that a team could miss the the SEC championship game but game but still make the BCS title game.

Be a good game. I think UGA is playing its best football right now. But UT can definitely lose to 'Tucky. Senior day, etc. etc.

The SEC is just a clusterfuck this year. Any team could beat any other team, regardless of rankings.

THey've been saying the same thing for 22 years.

Having lived in central KY for the last 26 years, I'm not sure I've ever heard that before last year. And regardless of what you think you know, UK can beat UT tomorrow, and I'm guessing they most likely will.

The same thing being said about Woodson leading them to a win was said about Couch, Lorenzen, etc. Can they beat UT? Maybe, but if Little doesn't go it'll be a long day for UK. Will they win? Too much riding on this game for UT to lose. 38-24 UT

That's happened before, in the Big 12. In 2001, Nebraska missed the Big 12 championship game after being blown out by Colorado, but lost to Miami in the BCS national championship game.

Yup, that was what I was thinking about too. Wasn't it Oklahoma that Nebraska got rolled by in the NC game that year?

That was such a bullshit year. Oregon got robbed out of a NC game appearance and then went on to absolutely destroy Colorado in their bowl game. The same Colorado team that rolled Nebraska...

The bitterness over that year runs deep for me as a Duck fan.

VT would also have to lose. I think they would jump Georgia. There was quite an outcry after 2001 that a team that couldn't win it's conference played for the national title. Because of that, I think VT would move up. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if LSU isn't ahead of Georgia, even after the loss today.

You are forgetting that Ohio State is also ahead of Georgia and finished with their schedule and have just 1 loss - don't see Georgia passing them

He's not forgetting Ohio State, in the scenario the OP posted, they would be #1.

I thought the BCS put something in the formula about not winning your conference. But yea if the formula doesn't take care of it I'd wager that the voters WOULD. Sort of like michigan's magical drop in the final BCS poll before the games last year.

While this theoretically could happen, I'm not so sure it would be that simple. I think voters could intentionally keep Georgia out much like they kept Michigan out of the NC game last year, its pretty obvious that even with the computers the voters still have the say in how things shake down. LSU could win the SEC championship and voters could have them leapfrog Georgia (assuming they fall behind Georgia after this weekend). VT could win out and leapfrog Georgia seeing as how they'd have another win and an ACC championship under their belt to give them leverage for a leapfrog move.

Heck, there's even Hawaii still in the picture, they finally have a game that gives them leverage to legitimize their own unbeaten season - in the year of no undefeated teams (we're assuming Kansas loses to Mizz or in the B12 champ), would a 2 loss team really get in over an undefeated Hawaii?

Playoffs please! :p
