So it looks the same and it is color...

It has better battery time, but how else is this different my old Sega? Doesn't look that revolutionary to me guys.

GBA doesn't have a backlight.

;)

Also, was the Game Gear 32-bit? How about screen resolution?

(I honestly don't know on those, that's why I'm asking.)

theere is only a few hundred (if not more) games available for it. You do realize that all the gameboy and gameboy color games will play in here.

Advantage over gamegear. You canget new games with this.

Games to get

Mario Adv
fzero Adv
Zelda
metriod
tetris :D

too many to list.

Game Gear was an 8 bit system, similar to the Sega Master System. The GBA is 32bit, so theoretically games should look a ton better.

The GBA is much smaller than the Gamegear was. The nonbacklit screen of the GBA is incredibly annoying, but when the screen is viewed at the proper angle it looks very good.

Wish I could still find GameGear games. Mine is just collecting dust. X-Men and Mortal Kombat 2 get old after a while.

Course, if I go on any long car trips, I just drive myself. And when I fly, I take my visor. The GG would be fun to play with at home tho...

Wow... another Nintendo hand held, $90-$100.
Games $30 to $40.
No thanks, I'll put my money towards hardware and software on the PC.

Once Mario Kart comes out, it's all over. I agree that it is kinda expensive though. You just have to be careful which games you buy. I bought F-Zero because I love the series and read a few reviews, which all gave it a high rating. I know I'll get a lot of hours out of that cart. I don't think I'll buy any other games until August 27th... Mario Kart. :)

In the Tony Hawk GBA game, the characters are POLYGONAL! You try and find polygonal anything on the Game Gear...

To all who have the GBA:

Is it truly worth it?? I was wowed when I played SMA on a store demo unit and am kicking around the thought of buying one since a.) I sold my laptop, and b.) I'm going to Vegas in less than a month... is it really worth the $$ right now or should I wait until it becomes more mainstream and the price drops?? I'd mainly be interested in THPS2, Castlevania, SMA, Super Dodge Ball, and that RPG that's on Gamespot's preview... but it won't see extended use...

All I hear about is how hard it is to see the game. If you can't see it then how are you gonna play it?

I'm looking at getting one and I wanted to know the specs but I couldn't find em.

I still buy Game Gear games at Funcoland, they buy and sell used games.

still thinking...

The portable to get is the Sega Nomad... Portable Genesis w/ backlit screen, A/V out (for TV play), and second controller input. It has to be THE best portable out there. To bad Sega doesn't make them any more. :(

I would've bought one if the screen was backlit, but after playing with a GB color, I'll pass. Those screens are so annoying, you have to be playing looking from the side.

GBA = one of the fastest technology wise hand-held computers

+ about the same size as game boy colour
+ compatible with every Game boy game you can imagine
- some GBA's have a screen problem (hopefully you can replace the GBA unit)
+ long battery life (lol compared to a Game Gear!)

basically, there are alot more plusses then minuses in this handheld.. none other can beat it, currently.

Just get one of those lights for $9.99 if you're playing indoors where its dark. Its fine in the sun (according to the numerous reports I've read about that issue).

A "grass-roots movement" against the supposedly dark screen has risen. Pretty crazy stuff here.

Gamegear IMHO is a big steaming pile of junk. I've got one sitting in my closet along with 15-20 games. The ONLY one I even remotely liked was Shining Force II. I never owned a Gameboy myself but even the old black and white original had better games than the gamegear did. If I can gather all the parts/games to that gamegear it's going on e-bay so I can get a deposit on the GB Advance (much better graphics from what I've seen).
