In 30 minutes, I have to go to a meeting that will evaluate my performance for the last 3 months to determine if I will be getting a 25% raise and be officially promoted.

I'm pretty confident, but the owners have a history of pulling stuff out of their asses and giving you substantially less than what you were expecting.

I might have to pull a Paul Ryan and keep drinking water to hide my nervousness.

Why do you want to keep working under those conditions?

It's a long story, but it's difficult for me to find high-end positions due to the lack of a 4 year degree. I always hear "Oooo...you have 20 years of engineering and IT experience with fortune 500 companies! Nice! The problem is you have a 2 year degree in Computer Aided Design. Sorry. We have a policy of only taking people with 4 year degrees. We had to go with Barney who is fresh out of college and has a degree in English Literature."

Can't afford to go back to school, so here I am. I actually make decent money, it's just our family has had a lot of bad luck over the last 10 years that we're still paying for.

Oh yeah! It's the first world problems guy!

*waves at OP*

I'll wait for the thread where you complain about the higher tax bracket you're in after your raise.

I wouldn't worry about it; the decision was probably made long before this meeting.

Good luck though.

Good luck!

Meanwhile, I realized a while back that my "not give a shit" attitude in most of life also transfers over to work. I have a bachelor's and a master's already, so I'll get started when I feel like it, mom:).

Well, they were true to form:

They're giving me a 5% raise, and will raise me in "increments" over the next 18 months. I was also moved to salary and they want me to increase my communication (which I already communicate too much. I guess they want me to email them if my balls itch too).

So, same old under-expectations, but the carrot is still dangling in front of my face.
