So four instances of the F@H core are running...

Is this normal? They're taking up different amounts of CPU time, but I assume that's just due to variations in the WUs?

Also, is there anyway to pause the F@H SMP client like the "suspend" option in BOINC, or do I just have to end the process and restart?

The SMP client will run 4 instances. Its normal, don't worry about it :) It is designed to run on dual and quad core's so it runs 4 instances at all times.
There is no suspend option, obviously if its set to idle cpu usage then it won't effect gaming, or anything else. The only probelm is that the SMP client uses a far amount of RAM, around 250mb for a "2653". So if you want the ram back then you'll need to close the client. What I would suggest here is that when you do the config for the client you set the WU saving checkpoint to a short amount of time (I think 15mins is standard) if you set it to 5mins then your restore points will be more often, that way when you close the client you haven't lost to much work.

Sweet thanks. I've got 2 GB, so RAM shouldn't be an issue.

All four instances are working on "one" WU.

The SMP client is still in beta. I hope when it goes non-beta it will have a suspend feature.

As far as different amounts of CPU time, my old dual Xeon with HT shows in Task Manager very close CPU percent usage. The total times right now are 26:20:00, 26:06:00, 26:05:00 and 26:03:00. The thread with the longest time has the largest Peak Memory at 21,00KB, the others are 13,000KB. Also the longest time one has 170 times more I/O Write Bytes than the others. The Project number is 3043.
