I dont get what they did with the Xbox360. No im not a PS3 fanboy, im not here to hate on the 360 [i have an xbox, no ps2 but ps1...]

how does the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive work? The core console doesnt come with any hard drive and a standard DVD drive.. does this mean that right now games are plain DVD's and HD-DVD games will come out later? you'll have to buy the $200 drive to play the new games?

and the core console without the hard drive.. what can be done without the hard drives? you cant download any of those games on the Xbox live service?

There will never be HD-DVD games according to Microsoft.
And yes, no HD means no downloads.

The HD-DVD drive will plug into the USB port on the back. MS says there will not be any HD-DVD games but I don't believe them. On the core X-box, you can buy the hard drive and it has a place to plug it in on the top of the Xbox. No, you can not download content without the hard drive.

I think that is all correct. Also, the hard drive is what enables the backwards compatibility.

Kind of sort of true. You can download content with a memory card but that pretty much limits you to small items like Live Arcade games and themes/picture packs.

You're better of with the Premium 360 regardless.

You have to think that its true though because not everyone will have a HD-DVD drive so developers would not want to release two versions of a game like PC titles with CD and DVD. It would not be worth it.

Not to mention it has already been stated that the read speed on the HD-DVD drive is too slow for games.

<----- Complete xbox 360 noob....

I have a core system. It does not have any memory unit. Can I plug in a memory stick or an external hard disk through the USB port and use it to save games midway?

I tried using a memory stick for saving games but it didn't work.. TIA

You need an official Xbox memory unit or HDD to save games.

Honestly, hunt for a deal for the HDD or take your 360 Core back and get a Premium. The memory card just isn't worth it.

*reads into the future 2 years or so*

Microsoft releases an Xbox 360HD, which contains an internal HD-DVD drive for roughly 400 dollars (core will be 200, premium 250 by then). Games begin to be released on HD-DVD as the file sizes get excessive, and people will be able to buy the HD-DVD drives for their old 360s, so they dont alienate people.

Course microsoft claims games will never be released on HD-DVD, but I dont see the 360 competing with PS3 in the long run if its games all have to be truncated using smaller texture file sizes and whatnot. However how often is microsoft honest about their plans?

That said, I love my 360, and dead rising on my 42 inch 1080p LCD running at 1080i is amazing to say the least.
