So...for DLP and LCD television...does the light bulb price went down..since last year?

One thing that hold me last year to purchase a DLP and a LCD was the ridiculous price of light buld you have to change in your television.

Did the price went down? How much it cost approx nowaday to replace the bulb?

I don't think the prices have gone down, in general.

It really depends on the model and brand.

When I had my Sony Wega LCD RPTV, it was about $350 for the bulb. That still seems to be about par for the course.

So with the elimination of the color wheel does that also eliminate the rainbowing some people see on DLP?

If so that's a bigger advancement than the long life bulb (IMO).

Yes. Better color gamut as well.

That's basically 7 years at 8 hours a day.

Looks like everyone is switching to that technology for DLP this year. Mitsubishi will utilize a similar technology when it unveils its new line in April.

Indeed. Guess I've just made 100% sure I won't be buying a TV anytime soon, I'll be damned if I buy a non LED device.

A sucky thing though is TI has 2 different 1080p non wobbulation chips, one has 2048x1080 mirrors and the other is 1920x1080 mirrors. Ti refuses to allow any of these two chips to be used in RP TVs. They are reserved solely for FP.

get and LED DLP, no bulb replacement needed.

DLP still has a movie color wheel located in it. have fun replacing that the only thing that can go out on a LCD projection is the bulb.

wow never mind the color wheel is gone now tight.

still i'd wait for SED or OLED at this point.

Mostly because there are people are willing to pay 10 grand+ for projectors, but very few willing to lay that kind of cash down for a TV. Besides, you aren't going to see much of a difference in the actual resolutions on a 60" TV screen. Heck, most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p even viewing 1080p content.

With the performance of modern scalers, resolution is the most overrated spec on TVs.

Both are a very long way off.
