SO for comcast....

Internet alone: $57.95 / month

Internet w/ tv: $42.95
Basic cable: $13.16

Whateve rhte total is (dun wanna do math) is less than 57.95 / month

Oh yes, I know there are promotions but forget thsoe for now....

So Basic cable is essentially free? Hell I even save money by getting basic cable? (This is for my apartment btw, so I dont' need anything fancy that I have back at home)

Wow... My Comcast bill with digital cable and internet is around $115. NO PREMIUM CHANNELS.

If you call to cancel they will lower that to $80 and add HBO and Showtime.

With both Cox and Charter, it ended up effectively costing me $4 per month to have basic cable (up to channel 28/30 or so)
Beats using an antenna.

Basic cable for $13 is just the broadcast channels. It only includes 5-10 channels depending on your area.

35 I believe. I have that in my current apartment. Starts from Fox all the way to food channel (35), but apparently I get FX 🙂confused😉. Good enough for a student like me. No time to watch TV like I used to back at home =P

They have a package called, "Limited" cable which is channels 2-13. Is that what you're talking about when you say basic cable? Here, it's only $7.50 a month, I believe. My total bill is usually $54 a month.

If you know how to work the system, you can get good deals. I pay $62/month, tax included, for HSI, digital plus package w/ DVR.

Subtract the $300 in rebates/gift cards I recieved for double and triple dipping, and the service is basically free. Sign up at Best Buy, circuit city, staples, compusa, etc all on the same weekend, then sign up and send the rebate in

I went to comcast.com and searched.

There's

Limited Basic and
Limited Basic + Expanded Basic = Standard Cable

Limited Basic has channels 2 - 34, which gives me Fox, ABc, CBS, UPN, etc and QVC.
Expanded Basic gives me TNT, FX, ESPN, CNN, Fox News, Comedy Central.

So I guess our limited basic has a few more channels than at other places which is why they charge a whopping $13...

Yes, Comcast charges you more for Internet alone than Internet + Basic cable. And this is something you have to read or figure out because they'll never suggest it to you.

I think my basic cable is only 9 or 10 bucks. I know it just went down a buck or two recently. I also have an HDTV with built in OTA and QAM tuners so I get all the digital channels for free, along with the local HD channels (via cable).

Total bill per month is 50 something.

How exactly did you manage that?

My Comcast bill is right around $140 for essentially the same thing: HSI, digital plus package with DVR. I also have HBO, Showtime, and Starz but those are $5-8 apiece, so without those my bill would still be right around $115 a month.

No.

Where I live, it is..

$42.95 for HSI
$03.00 for modem rental
-----
$45.95
$13.50 for Basic Cable
-$10.00 for subscribing to both CATV and HSI
-----
$59.45

plus less than $1 in taxes.

So effectivly, I pay $3.50 for basic cable.

comcast's pricing structure is a leftover from the days when they couldn't filter TV from the HSI. they wanted to make sure that since you were going to get TV anyway, you might as well be a registered customer. The first time I signed up for internet, I got it on a promotion that was $30 a month so I skipped on TV. then one day, my roomate plugs in his TV, and lo and behold, 60 some odd channels! was nice untill they got the filters for it.

just keep calling until you find a CSR willing to give you the best deal. Some months are better than others. I cancel every six months so I can do the rebates again. If you already have service, threaten to cancel and see what they will do. keep calling until you find a CSr that is extremely interested in keeping you as a customer.
