In the last Steam summer sale dealio.

I was one of the guys who boycotted it because of the L4D1 debacle of promising a bunch more content and not really ever delivering.

Great game, a whole lot better than L4D1, and actually deserving of being called a sequel rather than an expansion.

I haven't played too much of it yet, but the first campaign was great, and it felt a lot more pressing and intense rather than like a game with staged attacks like in the first.

gg Valve, gg

Meh still not different enough to be called a sequel. Still too similar. It is much better in some aspects but worse in others. The characters in the first one have more life to them but there's more variety in the second one but still not enough.

I really wish they had done a better job at integrating the communities. I feel the multiplayer aspects of these games aren't really different enough to warrant there being 2 separate games. I own both, haven't put serious hours into either, but I enjoy them. If they wanted to release an expansion and call it L4D2, with new single player content or whatever I would be entirely cool with that. I enjoy the content added to L4D2, melee weapons etc, but it honestly felt more like a DLC then a separate game.

The splitting of the community is in my opinion the most serious consequence of the quick release and it really shows in the numbers of people playing L4D 1/2 as opposed to the other Valve shooters. That said L4D2 is still a fun game, just about the most fun I had playing games this year was when they released the Realism Versus Mutation, that was just plain fun.

I have both. Hit every achievement with both since I last played either. Great games both of them and have enjoyed many long hours of play from them.

The hardest problem is finding a group of people to complete all the campaigns on extreme and the extreme realism game. Most people in that game are fairly bad.

Once you start feeling tired with the normal campaigns there are a ton of community made ones and mods out there to keep your interest sparked for a bit longer as well.

I bought it during the sale and finished it in one day, so I'm glad it was only $10. Makes up for my buying torchlight for $20.

I did start playing custom maps from that l4d2maps site though, some of those actually add a challenge, especially the ones that have constant hordes, I love blood baths.

I haven't really played multiplayer much though, so I'm sure I'll get much more value out of the game once I do. Looks like there are currently a lot of people still playing (probably due to the sale). Hopefully that doesn't drop off too soon once people get sick of the game.

I bought it on sale as well. I like playing it, but it isn't as fun as L4D was when it came out. Maybe it is just the servers I go into, but not many people talk. They all run off on their own then complain when they get killed. Or you have the people who like to shoot their teammates.

Besides all that, it just doesn't feel as exciting.

L4D2 is all about Versus, and teaming up with friends. Mic's should almost be required.

We need to set up an AT L4D2 night.

I wish AT had more active gaming groups in general, it seems like we all own these games, complain about the people playing them and stuff haha.

I don't feel it is as exciting as the first one. The creepy factor was gone on L4D2, which is why I liked the L4D1 better. Heck I still play that game a few hours a week. It's still awesome.

The whole point of the game is multiplayer. It's not going to be much fun with AI players.

i played a lot of L4D1 and just got L4D2 on sale under $8 during the last sale. great game but no way i was going to pay much for it. at the price i paid i don't care whether it's a DLC or a stand alone sequel.

bought the bundle of L4D and L4D2. played L4D with my one friend and I think it's kind of boring. way too repetitive and not much of a challenge until you get to the end of a level and then it is near impossible to finish it successfully.

we're gonna start L4D2 soon but I doubt it will be much better.

i didn't get the first one, but for 10 dollars i bought the second, its a lot of game for 10 dollars.
as for too hard, perhaps you are playing it on too hard a difficulty setting.
even in public games i've had a decent amount of level completions. sometimes you get the total n00bs that get everyone killed, but for the most part its not that impossible.

Got L4D2 for $10...

About what it's worth.

It's not different enough from L4D1 to be called a sequel. It's more like what L4D1 should have been.

The short release time between games shows how little effort when into it, especially when you consider this is Valve time we're talking about.

It takes them FOREVER to dish of quality content.

It is different from L4D1. I absolutely loathe tards who say otherwise. "It's what L4D1 should have been." Yeah, and GTA IV is what GTA III should have been. Give me a break. It has 5 completely new campaigns, that isn't counting The Passing which they added on (because it sucks, just like Crash Course for L4D1, just not as bad). In every campaign in L4D1, you held out somewhere, whether it be a house or a rooftop. In L4D2, you wait, or you have to run across a bridge, or you have to fill a generator/car to get to the end. Finales are varied, which is nice. In L4D1, you had pistols only for secondary. In L4D2, you have melee weapons that allow you unlimited melee action, which was taken away in L4D1 to prevent corner camping and melee spam (which barely helped, just annoyed you at the horde). If you don't want melee, you have dual pistols- or you have a Magnum. The melee weapons range from a frying pan to an axe, and they all seem to differ a bit in the way they work (range and such). In addition to the secondary weapons, there is also a nice variety of new primary weapons including a Spas-12, AK-47, semi-auto sniper rifle, etc. These are great, considering L4D1 didn't give you near as interesting weapon choice. Instead of just pipe bombs and molotovs, you have Boomer Bile added into the mix, which can be a godsend at times. To add to that, you have shots which allow you to heal faster, run faster, revive faster, etc. Every add on was something that had to be thought up, and you don't just patch these things into a previous game. Valve came up with 4 new characters, and they all represent the area where we play, just as they did in L4D1. Hell, you even meet up with the other survivors in The Passing, which is very interesting (poor Bill...). And to boot, along with the new modes, they are having plenty of mutations that make the game more interesting.

All the content they have offered warrants a new game, and if you don't see that, that's your problem. Valve has absolutely spoiled the gaming community with TF2, offering class updates and maps and such, because that all FIT in the game, and TF2 is something that you continue on like that. L4D isn't your standard multiplayer deathmatch FPS. I for one, am ready for L4D3. Bring it on.

Am I the only one who thinks the intro movie from this game is fantastically well-done? It makes me think "I wanna see that movie".

All the guns in the game aren't even that different from each other. Most of them are just slightly different versions from each other. AK, M4??? The two shotguns? The two sniper rifles??? All barely different to be called new weapons when they're basically just skins. Melee weapons are basically the only good thing they changed in the game. Everything else is meh and too similar to the first one and not different enough and charging full price for it is fine for them cus there was obviously many people willing to pay full price for it. Sure 5 new campains that are all still the same with not much differences between them and the first game.
