So far so good with my 9800 Pro, but how quiet should it be?

I have it plugged into my power supply so it should be fully running - by my increased game performance it certainly looks like its working, but I don't hear anything above my CPU fan. My last card, an old Ti200 had a louder fan than this thing, so I was wondering if other people's 9800 Pro's (built by ATI) were as quiet as mine?

I installed a $10 VGA Silencer on mine to make it almost silent.

I didn't install anything on mine, it just doesn't make any noise, which makes me wonder if it's working properly...I guess it is...I hope it is...

same here,i definitely was hearing the stock's high pitch whine & it was bothering me & that stock heatsink is a joke.

The stock sink on a 9800 pro is borderline,it gets way too hot.

jakobkraft I highly suggest you get a Vga silencer to keep it cool & you never know there might be a R360 core (xt) on yours and if so you can flash it to a 9800XT.

I did that...I don't know how to tell if everything is okay other than to check if the fan is working, which it was...I guess that means everything is okay...

Forgive my paranoia, I'm just a longtime Nvidia user and am very desirous of my transition to ATI to go smoothly and without incident...thanks

Those 9800 Pro's are one of the best vid cards ever made. I've been happy with mine for over a year and dont plan on upgrading for another 6 months or a year.

I have a Sapphire BBA 9800 pro and don't hear my fan at all. Its spinning (I checked cuz I couldnt hear it) and all is fine, been using it for 7 months now and never had a problem with it. I did however remove the HS/Fan and removed the thermal paste and added my own Artic silver on it as i have heard they dont put good stuff on the core.
