So far I really love Windows Vista

Though maybe its just me ? Does anyone else notice this ? Seems to me that Windows Vista is taking more advantage of the 2 gigs of ram unlike Windows XP where the limit of how much ram it can take advantage of may be 1 or 1.5 GB maybe or it may just not have the same type of good intelligent Superfetch like Windows Vista does. I don't know. I just hope a lot of programs or games I start to find don't work. I know it will happen but hoping less than 30 %

32-bit Windows can address up to 4GB (theoretically). Vista utilizes the memory more efficiently through SuperFetch, which XP lacks.

99.99% of the populous has all of their programs work with Vista. I fail to see how you could hope for 70% of your applications will fail.

I was talking about I hoped only about 30% failed. Less would be great. Is it still ok to run programs that don't officially support windows vista or will cause a lot of headaches? Will the move to 64 bit OS take a while?

I've been running Vista for a little over a month....and I can't go back to XP now, Vista is just so much more useful than XP...not to mention that with 2Gb's of ram there is very little in the way of a performance difference between Vista and XP with games.

I have yet to find a game that refuses to run with vista...

All my favourite programs work great in Vista x64,I have tried about 25 games so far and they all work,stability/compatibility is far better then I expected.

Some games you may need to select in properties of the game(WinXP SP2 compatibility mode and also select "Run as Admin").

Btw you should update your other thread here on how you fixed it.

How do ATI's drivers perform in Vista?

Apparently Nvidia's drivers suck balls, so I'd assume they couldn't be worse than them.

I've been running Vista for a few months and they work find by now. They had a few small issues early on but their gone, atleast what I can see.

I didnt have a problem with Nvidia drivers in the release candidate for my 6800GT. I have been running on Vista business for about 5 days with my 8800GTS 640 and havent see a problem in any games with the 158 drivers.

/shrug

I also can no go back to XP, Vista is much better in responsiveness and memory management.

I may not have to get a Raptor now because of how well Windows Vista takes advantage of all the ram you have to speed up the whole system overall! Though I may still get at least one 150 GB Raptor because I really want Windows, Applications, and Game installations to feel really snappy!

In most games I've found a very small drop in performance, usually 5-7%, some games especially Directx based games (FEAR, NFS:C, STALKER etc)have no performance loss at all.

OpenGL titles tend to lag behind a little bit, although using the 7.4 Cats, this loss is a little a 5% in Doom 3, Resurection of evil and Quake 4...they all run at 1280x1024 Ultra Quality with no problems at all.

However it is a different story if you try to game with only 1GB...some of these titles do run poorly (a lot of Harddisk access) on Vista...but since I upgraded to 2GB everything runs perfectly.

I'm very happy with my setup at them moment.

I still use a raptor in my system as well as my other systems. After using one for awhile, it's kind of hard to retrogress on one area of system performance (i.e. HDD response time and "load time"). I can't compare Vista load times, because there's still some weird issue with my session manager that causes abnormal Vista load times. Session Manager itself takes almost a minute to load on my faster, newer machine and takes barely any time to load on my older, but still relatively fast machine. I still don't know what's causing this.

Raptors are still worth it though, caching to memory isnt an instant thing when you boot up and games still require to hit the disk 😀
