Hey all,

Some of you may remember me, some of you may not, but i've decided after a little hiatus to start off slowly with DC again.

The last thing I did was some SoB, but have been away from it for quite a while, and not logged in to the forums for quite a while, too! ;)

I've got a new PC which is sitting at home doing nothing, I had to stop doing DC on it last year due to hardware starting to fail, and without the stress of DC it was fine, but now it's got new components, why not make use of it again! ;)

Now i'm sure i'm going to get lots of people try to sell me their personal favourite projects... so go ahead, but I do not want any flaming or slagging off other projects, please ;)

Hope to catch up with some of the old regulars soon! :)

I agree with mondo, you can crunch several projects at the same time and thus find out which you like and which you find "worthy". BOINC is quite easy to install and to maintain.
I you want an easy project (non-BOINC) why not try DPAD - see amd.borg's thread. It can be run without being hooked up to the 'net all the time, once a day for a few minutes is sufficient.
A project with very good stats (and a worthy cause) is also Folding@Home, also a non-BOINC-project, where the TeAm has a very good presence and a wonderful group of team mates (look @ GLeeM's threads). :)

/me waves at Confused. :)

SOB is still going on, F@H is good, Boinc is good. Dimes doesn't use much resources, mostly Internet, so can run along with other projects. and there are many, many more. :) Check them all out and decide which one(s) you like. :D

Good to have you back around! :)

Hey bro glad to see you back :)

I'll put in a vote for Rosetta@Home a boinc project.

Rosetta@home needs your help to determine the 3-dimensional shapes of proteins in research that may ultimately lead to finding cures for some major human diseases. By running the Rosetta program on your computer while you don't need it you will help us speed up and extend our research in ways we couldn't possibly attempt without your help. You will also be helping our efforts at designing new proteins to fight diseases such as HIV, Malaria, Cancer, and Alzheimer's (See our Disease Related Research for more information). Please join us in our efforts!

No matter what you choose, its good to see you again :)

I run both DPAD and DIMES. If you like physical sciences, DPAD is a particle accelerator simulator used to optimize an "as yet to be built" neutrino generator. It can be run as a hidden process or as a command line item. When it it set for lowest priority, it doesn't slow down other processes. I do video editing with it running. No probs.

DIMES just needs a 24/7 internet connection. It takes virtually no CPU time, just pings and traces IP addresses around the world for mapping purposes.

Hi mate! :)
What you been upto? longtime no see :p
What car you got these days?

I'm running DPAD & S@H2 since SETI classic was stopped on Dec 22nd.Also running DIMES on 1 rig.
DPAD is an interesting project (if your into that anyway;)) ,as well what Jon said DPAD does ,a hoped for spin off is that they'll learn how to transmute radioactive materials to neutral ,though admitidly that's somewhat on the back burner atm.

I think you know what SETI does;)

I'll look into DIMES, an internet only project sounds good for my HTPC, where noise/power levels i'm trying to keep to a minimum! ;)

I'm an old hand with SoB - checked my stats today, still 83rd in the world for total production - i've not done it for well over a year  DPAD I looked at briefly before I had my hiatus, and i'll definitely check out some of these new acronyms! ;)

So glad to see so many known faces! :)

Ass1, I'm driving a Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC at the moment :D Still also done almost nothing to my Anglia 105E - though am considering sticking a 200sx engine in it for some crazy BHP/ton values ;)

Did you use the head(s?) etc that you bought from me? (it was you wasn't it?).

2.2VTEC a? nice!:) ,what BHP does that put out?
My '92 Silver Sierra Ghia got rammed up the rear just over a year ago & written off :( (I really liked that car!:brokenheart: ) ,got a '97 BMW 323iSE now :) ,love the straight 6 engine! ,but not its ride.

Can't believe that we all forgot to ask you what spec your new PC is!:Q ,I thought we're all supposed to be geeks?;):D
So what ya got?

Welcome back, Confused :)

The Rally TeAm, TAS - *TA Sentinel* could use your help!

The main goals of TAS will be to
1. Increase TeAm AnandTech's participation and production in projects.
2. Introduce people to projects they're not so familiar with.
3. Have LOTS of fun!
4. Establish TeAm AnandTech as a major player in all that is DC.

We'll do this by movin between projects, participating in each for 4 weeks at a time. After starting each new project, the next upcoming project is voted for by TAS members and added to the Rally Schedule.

This RallyTeAm is known as "TA Sentinel", but members will crunch under their own individual names.
We hope to keep this as exciting as possible and to bring the TeAm even closer together!
This can only be accomplished if there's enough interest and support.

Welcome back Confused :D
Hope things have been going well for you.

My rigs are crunching SOB & F@H. Apparently the latest SOB client really like the P4's.

Whatever you choose will be helpful though.

This is like a bad "Western Movie".

'BUT ..............the "HERO" is suppose to ride off in the sunset....never to be heard from again. :Q

Nice to see you back.

All the "Old Timers" are kicking around in the back ground. Ray's still waving his cane around, SO stay ready to duck. Smokes here too...but he's been kinda busy...Hurricane Katrina was an unwelcomed guest at his last party. :( And.......Engineer....believe it or not....he lurks in the background .....kinda like "The Stalker".
Though he doesn't post much...if you PM him ...he sometimes replies. He is swamped at work and I think the occasional PM helps him break the riggers of his job. ;)
I could go on and on...but thats not Fair to all of the newer teamates that haven't had the Honor of meeting you. :p

Most of the old guy's are still here. But since Seti Classic ended they have dispersed to other projects. TeAm Anandtech SETI, finished at 5th in the world under classic. We aren't doing as well with Seti2 in BOINC though. But, we recently moved from 19th up to 17th.

Good going TeAm !

As far as I am concerned...choose a project that your New 'Puter will run without causing problems for you. All are worthy and all can use your help. So I guess you will have to make up your own mind on this. :( Just .......................................................get crunching !!!!!!!!!! :|

OH....and did I say ...nice to see you back? :D

P.S. If you can't make up your mind....just crunch Seti..........'till you can. :p
