Is there really no way to remove it? I'm asking cause another family member installed it for only God knows what reason... and it was ok cause then I could see what my junk scores in 3DMark2003, but now 3DMark2001 won't run, and I've noticed some visual problems in various games that I play that didn't exist before DX9 was installed.

For future reference: Ghost and Drive Image. Use one of them before installing an MS component like this that's "part of the operating system": DX, IE, WMP, MDAC, etc.

Again I say, it was installed by another family member, not me.

Strange thing with DirectX and 3D Mark, though.

I found out that if you install DirectX 8.1 and 3DMark 2001 SE, it works fine. After you installed 2001SE (and checked it), install DirectX9.0(a) you can install 3DMark 2003 and both 3DMarks work.

If you have installed DirectX9 and after that tried to install 3DMark 2001 SE, it won't work.

I've had 3DMark2001 installed for months and months... DX9 was installed in the past week... still doesn't work.

BTW... I haven't been able to find a place to download that DirectX Eradicator... I've found places that supposedly have it, but the download links are broken, or it starts transferring at 3 bits per second.

Appartently the latest build of 3DMARK 2001 works with DX9 installed although I cant confirm that as my Dial-up modem weeps at the thought of downloading it again. :D

Maybe I'll try re-installing 2001 and see if that helps... if not, it's been about 6 months since a clean install of XP anyway... =)

I have the latest build, and it doesn't
I think you need to double check, they have a patch if you have the right older version also. 3DMark 2001 SE definately works with DX9. Dx9 has been final and updated, I doubt its going to be worth fuburing your rig to get rid of it.

It's build 330... so unless there was additions to the patch that aren't mentioned, and the patch hasn't been renamed... I have the latest version... when I tried to run 2001 it said I needed to install DirectX 8.1

Says it's 9.0a... and doesn't report any problems... but I can't investigate any further than that until tomorrow when my new heatsink/fan arrives for my video card... (using my 2nd rig right now)

Looks like you're down to re-installing your Det's. Did you try re-installing 3Dmark?

Try downloading from another source, one of the 330's I downloded wouldn't work, but when I got them from another site they worked fine.

I re-installed 3DMark2001 (the same install file I had on my hard drive that I used the last time) and now it works again... go figure.
