Through my discount at work my family was able to put together a very very respectable DTS-capable home theatre system. One time I accidently watched half of T2 in dolby digital before switching to DTS for the rest, and honestly I couldn't tell a bit of difference.

Note though, that I am no means an expert/audiophile of any kind.

DTS is a different standard. Owned by steven speilburg's company ( i believe.

Dolby digital is dolby's surround cound standard

essentially they are the same. both are digital with 6 channels.

HOWEVER, DTS uses less compression, and thus has better sound quality. But DD sounds just fine, nothing really wrong with it. few people will bother with the difference.

if you want high end, get something that can do both, receiver, decoder, DVD player.

realize that dd is the dvd audio standard. and dts is a feature on some dvd movies, and is a feature some look for.

actually, if anyone was in the market, i'd recommend a dts and dd system.

IMHO, DTS sounds better than Dolby for the most part. The better your system, the bigger the difference.
