So does the Wii U upscale?

old wii games? I hear that it doesn't, then I hear that it does, but only over HDMI.

You can't just change the native resolution on games. For starters NONE of the user interfaces are designed to scale in ANY way. So yes, Wii games are simply upscaled on the wiiu, the native resolution must be kept for maximum compatibility.
