so does the <$100 market still suck these days?

I was thinking a DX9 card would be nice to look at all the pretty demos and stuff. But it seems like all the budget cards still suck. Is this the case and will this change any time soon? I have an ATI 9100.

It used to be there were so many good budget cards back in the day but now that's not really the case anymore. 🙁
 
The only upgrade for you in sub-$100 market is a refurb GF4Ti. Any other card will be the same or less performance than yours.
 
GF4 4200 is the sub $100 market, with honorable mention to the ATi 8500/9100 cause it's cheaper still.

just got a 128mb GF4 4200 Gainward AGP 8X on the For Sale/Trade forum for $95 shipped. it's currently clocked at 280/570 (4400 is 275/550) and going higher... can't beat that for <$100.
 
It does seem like the budget card market has stagnated - there just haven't been any improvements for months. I have a gaming LAN setup in my basement so I only buy budget cards. IMO, It's not worth upgrading unless you can double the speed. This applies to cpus as well.

I don't think the <$100 market sucks - it just hasn't gotten any better in a long time.

My budget cards are:

Ti 4200 - My personal video card, was $119 when purchased.

ATI 9100 128 MB- Not as good as the Ti4200, but still nice at a great price $72. This card would not wotk with my Soyo 7VCA (Pentium III) motherboard, though.

Radeon LE DDR - Bios flashed to regular Radeon 7200 speed. This has served me for a long time, one of my best purchases at something like $60. Still plays all the games I own.

If there were 9100 pro's and non-pro's it would be.
But the 9100 is the 9100, and they mostly have the same clock speed, same as the 8500LE's.

Actually, there are different levels of 9100. I got a POS one. My Powercolor came at a stock speed of 250/183. A Ti4200 would be a decent step up, but not enough for me to upgrade myself. I'm waiting until this winter, then I'll see what the 9800 and 5900 are at.
