since the pentagon dont know how to do the peace, and dicplomacy and agreement and influencing without alienating people is the business of thestate dept afterall?

i mean its an insurgency, not a war, so it shouldnt be run by military men should it. (and dont say its not because it is all pentagon)

the pentagon has controlled the iraq thing from start to disaster. thats great for the conquest of a country, but as we have seen the pentagon is terrible after it; partly from what they did during the conquest and what they have done after it.

since the state dept specialises in dealing with other countries - as opposed to fighting them - as a profession, shouldnt they be controlling the administration of iraq where security is just a part of the operation?

i think so. its how the british ran their empire, its how the americans run their country - with a civillian leadership.... anything dawning yet?

Personally, I think G. W. Bush should have funded the war out of his pocket since its so much easier for him to spend other people's money than his own. He seem to think that the tax dollars are only needed for military and the hell with civilain means and funds to run whats inside the country. What a jackhole to me.

It's not within their granted authority to manage combat troops, or wage war. Congress determines who does what, and who has authority, and when they can use it.

The Iraqi conflict was a disaster???? Read the facts, they show differently. The issue is and has always been the Arab mindset. At the turn of the 20th century, when Lawrence of Arabia lgave unity on a silver platter, they squabbled amongst themselves to the extent that nothing got done. What has changed???? Nothing I fear. They still are fighting each other. It won't stop overnight any more than the Israeli/Palestine question will suddenly fix itself. It just isn't going to happen. Anybody who thinks otherwise is fool.

Are you calling the current Administration foolish? I mean, didn't they think they can go in there, accept a few boquettes from the locals, install a peaceful democracy and everyone will be happy?

BTW, is it fair to make such a broad generalization about the Arabs and only support it with some vague historical reference which has most likely been misconstrued over the years?

You are right...I AM calling this current administration foolish, and the previous one as well.

My generalizations are not vague. I thought it was clear to anyone that the Arab world has squabbled amongst themselves for hundreds of years. No links or examples needed for common knowledge.
