So do you think well see some Hockey this year??

I used to care about this, but lately I'm just getting sick of the whole thing. I'm indifferent about the NHL this year. Maybe the loss of an entire season will force both sides to be realistic and fix things RIGHT, once and for all.

The World Juniors(or similar) Tournament starts XMas day or Boxing Day and will televised , if you are fortunate enough to live in God's Land(aka The Great White North). Again, if you live in Canada, it doesn't matter much where you live, there's a nearby Local team, go see one of those games, you'll be surprised how good the Hockey is and there's nothin better than watching Live Hockey and cheering/jeering with a crowd. 😉

What u talking about. Great hockey going on here... oo wait. You from America... too bad. 😉

😛

Not sure what you think we have here for hockey in America, but up herei n the Northeast, we have several AHL teams and excellent college hockey from the likes of UNH, BC, BU, Maine, etc.

I have season tickets to the local AHL team, which is currently the top team in every stat in the AHL. Also, they are experimenting with new rules this year so I get to see shootouts, restricted goalie movement, and touch up offsides. The only bad one is that lame no touch icing....

Regarding NHL hockey, I'm with the owners on this one. These players need to wake up and realize that they can't keep getting millions and millions for being a 4th line player who pops in a few goals now and then. If they won't take a cap, I say screw em all and let them stay in Europe. Blow up the current league and bring in new players who are more worried about playing hockey than performance bonuses, stats, or how many million they can get a contract for.

money hungry people should sit in the penalty box all season.

if i could be making 5million a year or more, i'd be very satisfied.

They want the Minimum salary to increase to $250k (NHLPA) or $300k (NHL) ... Damn, I wish I could be a $300k bench warmer!

I seriously don't understand whats wrong with the NHL offer. Player salaries based off of earnings sounds like it makes sense ... No business out there today would spend more money on their employees than their income is. Maybe the NHL's second approach should be layoffs, change the rules so the goalie is also the defenseman. Thats what a normal company would do if they weren't making money ... fire people and give the remaining employees more responsibility 😉

Ever seen the episode of The Practice where the guy from StarGate (blanking on his name) made a speach about hockey and how it's gone to hell. The commissioner accused him of not loving hockey but he turned it around and ta;led about the good old days of hockey when it was about speed, finess, and skill and not about seeing how hard you can hit someoen and how big of a fight you can get it.

He was going to sue the league for murder when a player died because of a fight because the league promotes the fights more than they promote the game so they basically were encouraging the players to get into more fights to help their ratings.

I haven't been to a hockey game in years because it's crap now compared to how it used to be.

I live less than 30 minutes from the local AHL team. That's filling the void for now. I've also managed to catch a few college games on TV.

Dont blame the players here...they just want what every other sport has...a big paycheck..it's funny how we bitch at hocley players for wanting money yet we are okay with some slope asking for $100 million to play baseball or football..please!

With that said I think they should take the deal, they dont understand what its like in the real world..they need a reality check...I appreciate the skill it takes to play the game and stay on top, but really they are asking too much. Football and Basketball and baseball need to take the same stance..

how can the owners give the players big paychecks when they can't even keep their team financially stable? They need to realize that not a lot of people in the US care for hockey, it's never going to be a major sport here, and their paychecks are always going to be lower. Be happy with the 500k you're getting each year and start preparing for life after hockey. There are worse things in life

Popper - exactly my point on salaries, these guys make a million dollars and they complain.
Do some math, the average US household is about $42,000 per year with two incomes, so if you made $550,000 net this year as a pro sports player (1 million - 45% tax rate) it would take the average US family 13 years to make what you made playing for 7 months this year....

Now if you play for three years, you have made more than a family can earn in 39 years of non stop work! Learn to handle your money!
