So do you buy shareware?

Or do you "crackit" ')

Hmmm, let's see. I use about 2000 shareware apps (feels like it)

I've bought:
Agent
Ultra Edit
Icon Edit
ACDSee (4)
Winzip (entire Package)
MusicMatch (bastaaard-ehs)
Real-crap (8.0 I think)
Getright

I use a butload more, but I'm broke now so I don't feel bad. I'll buy the other stuff when I get some cash.

Bulletproof FTP
CloneCD
Limewire
Ad-Aware 6 Professional
And soon Oupost firewall v2

All (apart from limewire as my university does not allow such things) good buys.

Warezmonkeys. :disgust:

I search for free software first - if I *really* need the shareware I buy it, but more often than not there's a GNU equivalent.

I bought mIRC, run a legit copy of WinXP Pro, run a legit copy of Nero, legit copy of Download Accelerator Pro. Everything else is open source dev stuff. It feels kinda good to have done this. 🙂

Stupid ABit forgot to include a serial number with the copy of WinDVD that they shipped with my video card. So, I needed to use a pirated key to make it work. Otherwise, my new gaming computer runs 100% legit software.

I've only bought two shareware programs, ever. I probably won't be buying anymore either, because I don't need to.

The only shareware I use is PowerArchiver, and I paid the $6 or whatever the special price was. And, get this, I donate to freeware authors for their work :Q

You actually paid for RealPlayer? 😕

I own my copy of windows 2000, I also own a legit copy of WinXP, but I don't run it. I bought opera (so worth it). I own an old license of ultraedit, but I usually just use vim. For about the span of a week, I used officexp over 2k without actually owning the license(turns out my employer gave me a pirated key and "forgot" to notify me.) for about a month, I scrapped it and went back to 2k. everything else I use is open or web based...or both.

I buy it all, but then I'm a goody-two-shoes and actually still buy CDs and DVDs (never even installed a p2p app).

Though my goody-two-shoeness is being severely tested by finding damaged tracks on 10 of the 550-odd CDs I've ripped so far for my music jukebox :| . Those RIAA scum should be forced to provide cheap replacement CDs for life, including "out of print" CDs.
