So do I get a AMD or P4?

This question has probably been asked a million times, and I know some of it is just matter of preference, but was hoping someone could give me their objective comments.

I'm looking to build a new machine, and I'm struggling over AMD vs Intel. My only experience with AMD was with a 1ghz processor a couple of years ago and it wasn't good. I put it on a MSI motherboard and never in my life have I had such problems building a system. I won't go into the details, just let's say I think I'm ready to try it again!

Cost isn't a real issue here. Granted, I like to save a buck or three, and I'm not going to go all out and grab a 3ghz P4 or XP2800, not at those prices.

I like to game, FPS to be exact. Also will be doing some video editing.

On to the questions:

I'm considering a XP2600 CPU. When matched with CL2 memory and the Chaintech Zenith Series CT-7NJS M/B, what P4 processor speed will this compare to?

Stability is key, overclocking is not important to me right now, are the AMD and nvidia chipset boards stable as the P4s?

Should I just be looking at a 2.53g P4 instead?

Just looking for some opinions here. I was a screaming machine for sure (it'll have a 9700 pro driving the graphics...)

Thanks

Nforce2 is the only platform to consider right now in the AMD space. Features and performance, coupled with stability mean it is a hard act to beat.

Go AMD 2600+ & A7N8x(Asus Nforce2 MoBo) and you won't be unhappy.
