I absolutely hate steam, so i decided to wait until i had time to just buy Dirt 2 from work. got home today at 6:30 and it's been 6 hours non stop now, i totally forgot the time and i trashed a ton of courses. Gotta say that while the DX11 effects are somewhat minimal in the game, it is still one of the best looking games i have ever played, the physics are really realistic, and (most important) the game is super addictive. i havent played a racing game for that long non stop since 2002 . Props codemasters!

Dirt2 came with my new video card, and I installed it this weekend. I didn't like it much, but not because the game is bad, but because it's just a console port. You cant even navigate menus with the mouse. Atleast they could have spend a week putting in some PC features like menu via mouse.

They are slowly trying to force us to use gamepads [xbox360 gamepads]... :(

I need to get the wireless receiver for Windows so I can use my MS wheel.

How does this game compare to DiRT? Tell me they got rid of the constant babbling from Travis Pastrana...

I remember playing the old CMR2 (RIP Colin) with a few buddies of mine incessantly, but none of the CodeMasters racing games since has really done it for me (CMR3, TOCA, and GRID).

they replaced it with constant babbling from some other random douchebags.

dirt needs more driving and less X-TREME skateboarders. i still like the colin mcrae games better than either of them.

Thanks. DiRT2 seems a lot more like its focused on being like the X-Games as opposed to WRC, which is kind of disappointing.

Thought I would bump this cause I've been hooked on this game the past few days. Easily the best racing game I've ever played. Except for the trucks though, I hate the trucks.

I love the rally and trailblazing races. I really wish they had focused more on rally races.

This game also looks amazing. Even the crowds are well done.

I already said enough in my Hot Deals thread where I posted it.

It's not too much a rally sim, but it's the best there is. DiRT 1 and DiRT 2 easily round up in my top 10 PC games.

I really wish they'd release an updated version of this for Windows 7. It's just like using an RC controller to play racing games - and it was awesome back in the day - no need to reserve a huge amount of desk/foot space. :)

WOW! Thats really cool. I've seen a few of the RC racing sims that make it so you can actually use your RC controller, but i never thought about trying it for other games.

tried the dirt 2 demo and the racing was ok, nothing special, but i hated having to use the keyboard to get to different menus and stuff. a pc game should allow mouse usage, not just keyboard.

I think the menu was well designed for using a keyboard, and a mouse would be a pain. I'm usually one of the first people to complain about not being able to use a mouse in menus, but it never even occured to me in this game.

i'm playing a PC game not a console game.

It's a racing game. Digital control for a racing game is dumb unless it's your only option. Having to use arrow keys for steering and throttle is so imprecise.

I'd agree with you if this was an FPS, but it's not. Some types of games just work better with gamepads. A wheel would be best, I suppose. Never felt like spending that kind of money for a game controller but it would be cool to at least try.

I tried Dirt 1 and Grid with a wheel and they played like ass.

I agree with people here who complain about controls. These games control like crap. I remember the days when NFS2, 3 and Porshe Unleashed were very playable with the keyboard. These days seem to be long gone. I haven't seen a single racing game within the last 10 years that would control well with kb. Some are better than others, but Grid and Dirt 2 are so bad that I cannot even keep the car on the track for 3 minutes straight.

I wanted to buy a racing wheel, but I simply have no space for it on my table or anywhere in my room. Such items quickly turn into junk, cluttering the room whenever they are not being used. What's more important is that even though racing wheels are available for around $50, there are many folks that say that anything less than $200+ G27 is just not good enough.

Then once again, you just really suck at the game. I've been playing fine, through hood view especially.

You should consider using a gamepad at least. Digital input (k/b) does not translate well to an inherently analog game.

You can't honestly expect a driving game to handle well with Kb controls. the old nfs games had simplistic handling Kb controls were fine

example. you couldn't drift or power slide through in those games, you didnt have to contend with wheel spin or brakes locking up.
