So did nVidia ever get those encoders to work on the 6 series?

I remember when i first bought my 6800GT it mentioned something about a decoder/encoder or something like that thatll help take the load off the CPU when watching movies. Did they ever fix that? I did a search but didnt know what to look for, so sorry if its a big time repost

You don't have to do a search, just look for 1000+ thread couple posts down.

Yes.

All you need is the 67.03's or later and NV DVD Decoder.

However the 6600s are or will be able to encode/decode everything. Including WMV HD files. THe 6800's on the other hand have a flaw in the Video Chip and cannot and will not be able to encode/decode WMV HD.

The WMV HD .dlls for WM10 will be out soon according to nvidia, so we will just have to wait for those, but everything else works very nicely.

So all I need to do is update the drivers? What is this NV DVD Decoder thing you are talking about? Do i need to download that seperate or is that included in one of the drivers?

Yes update to the latest drivers as well as go to Nvidias sight and download the NV DVD Decoder Trial. If you want it thenyoull have to pay the $20 IIRC.

Only for DVD Decode/Encode ops. All the others will still work if i understand correctly.

I'd not heard anything about the encoding at all....I assumed Nvidia just kind of ignored that part? I thought the new DVD Decoder was only for, you know...decoding...

And if the encoding with the video processor does in fact work, how do we use it?

It is only for decode ops....

As for "using it" it is automatically used. The drivers tell the CPU to offload all tasks to the VPU.
