I went with my cousin b/c we had to do stuff for his parents...

got there...power was out for the building. Taiwanese something something office closed.

So we drive around...and everyone's pretty much just walking, standing, sitting around. Some streets had power..some didn't. It was actually kinda fun.

did anyone else make it into the city at all??

oh and another thing...was there some sort of announcement or warning against going into the city for today? I'm being told that I'm an idiot for going and causing "more problems". I saw signs that said..avoid the city..but none that said..."turn around go back...do not enter". I mean..seriously..if we could've we WOULD NOT have gone...but this thing my cousin needs to do is important...matter of life and death. Ok..maybe not..but it affects when his mom would be able to return to the US from Taiwan. So..it's not like we went for a leisure day..we had business!!!

there is always greyhound
I could easily hop a bus (they're still running) into the city, but once I got there (it drops off in ChinaTown)... then what? I can't use the subway, have no idea what the cab situation is like, and have no idea where my gf will be

cab situation is normal...tons of cabs still. if you know her address...just tell the cab to go there...and if she's not there..wait. it's not too bad.

EDIT: dinglebutt beat me to the waiting outside of her place thing. pfffft. :p

native any word on when they expect cellular service to return?

I heard it'll take 8-9 hours after they get power for the subways to return to normal

i have no clue spooner...

tried calling into the city all day...couldn't get through. That's why my cousin took a risk and drove there to see for ourselves if the place was open. if phones had worked...we could've saved time and energy...

and I could've saved a couple years of my life that he so careless "drove" away. eek..never drive w/ my cousin...I was so scared I almost started crying. and he thought it was hilarious. grr...he's gonna get me killed one day. :( I'm too young to die!!!

ITs actually nice in Manhattan, because all the cockroach people that commute in from the burroughs aren't there.
