he's making fun of TH--a rather infamous anti-vaccine zealot around these parts.

I am not anti-vaccine.

I am however pro-education.

Shouldn't people have access to information so they can make an informed decision?

Or should people blindly do as they are told?

I have no problem with the majority of the vaccines on the market. I do have an issue with vaccinating children against diseases that are little more then a nuance.

Best thing he ever did. Although, I use brown rice instead of noodles.

I keep some in the freezer minus rice, ready for just such occasions.

1 chicken (3 pounds) boned, skinned, and visible fat removed, diced, (save the bones and carcass)
Essence, recipe follows
1 1/2 cups chopped onions
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup diced carrots
1/2 cup chopped green onions
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves

In a large sauce pot, heat the olive oil. Season the chicken with Essence. When the oil is hot, add the chicken, bones and carcass and saute for about 5 minutes, or until the meat and bones are brown. Add the onions, celery, carrots, green onions, garlic, parsley, basil, and bay leaves. Season with Essence. Saute the vegetables for 4 minutes. Add the chopped vegetables, spinach, and crushed red pepper and saute for 1 minute. Add the stock and bring the liquid to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer, uncovered, for about 25 minutes. woke up in the middle of the night shivering. WTF? room temp = 68 as it is always.

went to get another blanket. a few sec out of my warm bed, i started shaking.
by the time i got the blanket and returned to bed, i was shaking violently like a bad hip hop dancer.

w/the 2nd blanket, i curled up in a ball shaking like i had an epileptic seizure. After a few min, it settled down back to shivering.

i'm in the middle of a mild cold.. stuffy nose, coughing but no fever.
i guess it's getting worse. :(
So this is the flu?!

i think the next time this happens i'll stick my hands under hot water, or heck take a hot shower.

edit:
and i was pissing like a racehorse thruout the nite.
a couple of hrs later, i woke up thirsty like hell. drank a cup of water.

when the alarm clock rang, i was still thirsty.
you obviously have a fairly bad cold developing. I get that once a year.

Getting the chills is common and a fever is common too.

Here is some good advice for bad head colds:

1. get some pain meds like Advil. Don't bother over medicating yourself. If your sinuses are seriously blocked take a good decongestant.

2. drink plenty of liquids. Juice is good but high in sugar. Water is a better choice.

3. if hungry, then eat small light meals. Soup is a great choice as is stew.

4. get lots of rest. can't stress this enough.

5. make sure you have plenty of warm blankets. This can help you deal with chills and fevers.

6. prepare for lots of coughing. this is the most unpleasant part of getting sick. coughing annoys the hell out of me.

7. lots of kleenex and a bag or 2 to put them in and seal them up when full.

I hope you don't end up with sinusitis. I had that and it was terrible. It felt like my face was going to explode. And nasty greenish-blood coloured discharge. I never want that ever again.

I hope you feel better soon.

if it isnt the flu, why did i get chills?

<---- Former EMT

Sounds like run of the mill fever to me. But it "could" be anything.

Have you been fornicating with an unclean person recently? Might be the syphilis/gonorrhea/etc.

Sounds a lot like the same type of symptoms I started having about 3 weeks ago.

Immensely painful sore throat/coughing/hoarse voice - couple of nights which random chills [maybe a fever - I never really checked]. Been randomly coughing up white "gunk" / dry coughs either after waking up or late at night the past 3 weeks [Ricola cough drops helped somewhat]. Finally went to the doc for some meds [Azithromycin] to help fight off whatever bug I picked up.

Not sure where the cough came from - but I do work in an industry with a lot of visitors from around the globe.

I seem to alternate between freezing and sweating balls every few hours with the cold I have right now. :(

It definitely sounds like you're coming down with a cold or the flu. In either case take good care of yourself and it will pass at least somewhat more easily.

This is the AT Forums. What do you think the answer is to that?:p

youre getting cold because your immune system is reacting to what it thinks is a severe infection. its not sure if it can win the war with its cells, so it tells the body to super warm to help kill off as much shit as it can before it gets out of control.

so, to an extent, just do what you have to do to stay warm. always monitor your temp though, and i dont like electric blankets either because you can fall asleep and overheat which is really bad.

taking a hot shower usually does the trick to stop me from feeling cold

nope.. didnt work. still felt freezing on the inside :(

20/20 hindsight.. should have drank some of the hot water while taking the hot shower

This usually happens to me if I'm running a high grade fever. Think about it, if you're running a fever of say 102 degrees and the ambient air temperature is 68 degrees as you say, that's quite a difference. Sure, it's only 4 degrees off or so from normal, but that's a lot for your body to adapt to in a short period of time.

I usually take a hot shower to try to fight the "cold" feeling, which is probably kind of stupid if you're running a high fever, but I'm still alive! It feels better to me, even if my fever doesn't really go down from the shower.

I've been told to alternate Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen about every 4 hours to help bring a fever down, but check with your medical provider first.

I think I have about the same thing. It's been hitting staff member after staff member at the school - I can't wait for the weekend & rest!

I love my heated mattress pad. Most of the year, it's off. Occasionally, it's on low. When I feel like shit - it's already on for tonight, warming the bed up.
