I want Motorola's call quality, I want Android, & I want a physical keyboard, but for some reason I'm having trouble convincing myself to pull the trigger.

Probably because I've been on AT&T for the last 9 years. Verizon is unknown to me, I guess.

Please help convince me one way or the other!:(:\

I just recently did the switch and don't regret it at all! I'd say 95% of the time when I get a cell signal I am getting 3g. It may not all be the same speeds everywhere, but it's much nicer than ATT's spotty 3g coverage. The Droid itself seems to pull pretty good signal and even if you are only at about 1 bar, or sometimes just under it never appears to be a problem.

So far the Droid is the best phone I've used, although granted my smartphone experience is limited. I thought I might regret it considering so many new ones are just on the horizon, but I haven't seen any with a keyboard and I much prefer having one.

It's hard taking a plunge. There are so many exciting things on the horizon and all carriers getting Android loving. And it's not just Android. Don't count out palm just yet. And you never know what Apple is going to announce. Just be sure they will announce something. Coincidently (or by design), AT&T iPhone exclusivity ends the same time as Apple's annual mobile press conference thingy.
I'll tell you one thing. Even after hearing about the Nexus One, and hearing it's coming to Verizon, I still have no regrets about the Droid. I'm not going to be looking into selling it just to trade up. Is it a better spec'd phone? Yes, but not enough. If I was in the market for one now....I might wait it out or take the plunge.
So yeah....I am no help at all.

The Moto Droid is an awesome phone and I get excellent coverage everywhere I've been with the Droid so far, which is most of Phoenix, a good chunk of Las Vegas, and I'll be taking it Disney World tomorrow.

Really, there is no comparison between AT&T's and Verizon's coverage, Big Red blows AT&T out of the water without even having to drop any ordnance.

My Droid, My wife's HTC Eris Droid and my sons LG Chocolate Touch will be here tomorrow. We're making the switch from Sprint to Verizon and I'm very excited to use the Droid.

I'll end up paying a little bit more than my SERO plan, but from all accounts it is worth it. It seems like 80% of the people I know have Verizon! I have a corporate discount of 20%...which helps make it close.

Two years will go by quick enough that I know I won't regret the Droid and I can then change to something new then if it feels dated in 2 years.

verizon is awesome. I had att when it was cingular and switched around the time they changed names to att. its coverage was horrible. couldnt make a single call. been on verizon and never have problems with signal. i even get 3-5 bars in the everglades, which is basically nowhere.

I am quite happy with my Droid on Verizon.
If you arent sure yet, wait a bit cuz more carriers are getting Adroid phones and WebOS phones. The competition this summer should be really interesting.

I have Verizon for my work phone, the Verizon phone has excellent coverage and 3g just about everywhere I go. Coming from ATT, I think you will see a noticable improvement.

I would say go for it if you want a hardware keyboard. If not then I would wait for the Nexus One. Personally if I was on Verizon I would go ahead with the Droid for the physical keyboard. After having a Diamond I swore I would never have a software only keyboard again. After using a Tour and a Pre I got a Hero. Now I remember why I said I would never have a software only keyboard again, I just can't use the damned things worth a crap.

ya, i'm like you. i just can't get used to the "predictive" text thing. i tend to want to type everything out. and for people like me, a software keyboard will never match a physical one.

As much as I like my Moto Droid, there'd better be some upcoming models that still boast physical keyboards when the time comes for me to upgrade my phone.

I'm going to wait to see what AT&T announces, then decide. AT&T is actually pretty good here. I cannot remember the last time I had a dropped call. The only annoying thing is when I visit my parents, I only have the Edge network, no 3G.

I think the physical keyboard sucks on the Droid (owner here, first smart phone though, so no ties to physical or SW keyboards). There's no spacing between the keys and they're small (big hands here). A gamer version with a d-pad and some buttons or just an empty space for a cleaning cloth would have been better use of the space to me.

Swype is fantastic though and makes typing a breeze, almost fun.

If you are considering the Droid, I suggest going to a Verizon store to try out the keyboard.

Yeah, I was looking at Swype earlier today. I currently have a HTC Fuze and I find the keyboard to be pretty similar to the Droid's. I had no problem with the Droid's keyboard (tested it out at the store a while back).

i hated the keyboard when i first got my droid - even though a physical keyboard was high on my demands list.

however, after banging out several long emails with it, i've gotten used to it and actually like it now. when i first started using it it felt completely flat - but now i can actually FEEL the subtle roundness of the keys and the spaces between them.

that said, for texting, tweeting, and shorter emails - the swype keyboard is the bomb

Let me put it this way... I was hiking over Thanksgiving last year in New Mexico with a couple friends. I have Verizon, one has Sprint, and the other AT&T.

We were in a canyon in Bandolier National Monument on Thanksgiving day, and my VZ Blackberry Storm rings... well wishes from my family for the holiday.

My friends both looked at me in amazement, then looked at their phones and both said in unison, "I don't even have a signal here."

Ordered. They have a 30 day return policy. Worst case, I'll just go back to AT&T.

How do you mean? Within the first 30 days he can take it back and cancel the contract with no fees. I am sure AT&T would be more than happy to get him back.

He was month to month wasn't he? Was wondering if he could go back without signing a contract. That's all.

I'm not 100% sure, but it doesn't matter. I'm not going back. The Droid is an awesome phone and, so far, Verizon's service has been great.

broke down and bought a used Motorola Droid. had it for a couple of days and I have to say "I like it". Is it a Iphone killer, not really but it is the next best thing until the Iphone comes to Verizon. I do like that fact that you can have multiple apps open at the same time unlike the Iphone/Itouch. The only real downside I see right now with my Droid is the lack of quality apps and the number of apps. However Apple has a few years head start. The Droid will do nicely while I hope for a Iphone for VZW.
