I'm expecting naysayers, and they will be tolerated, but only with proof! Your opinion does not interest me. If you feel you must give it anyways to +++your post count, then, go to bed because it's late.

Yes, once the Crossfire X drivers become available (looking at around a Catalyst 8.3 release judging by the rumblings on the net) you will be able to Xfire the X2. ATI's 'Crossfire X' tech is basically allowing Triple and quad Xfire setups, and since the X2 is already dual GPU, two of them= Quad setup. Google Crossfire X- plenty of info.

The driver and the os do NOT see it as a single non crossfire card, they see it as a crossfire deal.

You will be able to crossfire it when the drivers for quad crossfire are complete, not before. As of yet they are in an early beta, and really, really, suck. (but that is to be expected from beta drivers for the first release of something... I am sure it will be good when its done)

I know that drivers for CFX are not ready, too. But I still have a doubt: will today's X38/X48 boards support the CFX when drivers are out?

I mean, think about my incoming Asus Rampage Formula: I'll put a 3870X2 in there, and maybe later I'll want to add an another one. Will it be OK, when drivers are ready? Or will I need some other kind of AMD-chipset-based board, or whatever?

Thanks in advance,
Giacomo

P.S.: I read somewhere that the first Intel chipset with CFX support would have been the P45; so is that wrong?

So can we Xfire the X2?

the answer is 'no'

no *proof* is required for an opinion ... just you try it and report back to us if you can 'hack' the drivers - or perhaps you can get hold of some Q-Xfire beta drivers

Eventually i expect AMD will support it ... they have to if they want to remain competitive with nvidia
