So Cal people (mostly): Any tips on doing the Getty Museum?

I have a date to entertain all day tomorrow. Since the weather's kinda blah, the beach may not be the best call. I got Laker tix for the night so I'm looking for day filler. Another option is the Auto Show at the convention center, but I'll be there w/ my boyz on Sat.

I've never been to the Getty so here are the questions:

1. Is it even worth considering? I'm not too artsy but it may score points w/ the female.
2. Has all the hype died down yet or is it still a b*tch to get in? I heard parking in Westwood and taking a taxi is a good idea.
3. About how much time does a good visit take? I heard you really need all day to see everything at a nice pace.
4. Any other tips?

Thanks all!

1. Yes, its worth considering. Even if you're not the artsy type, the view from the musuem is breath taking on a clear day.
2. Parking is a pain, see if you can call ahead, I think they might still do reservations. They have improved their parking, they built a parking structure.
3. They have events for the night also, like I said call ahead and find out whats going on.
4. Food isn't that great there, plan on picking place outside to eat for later on. Bring a nice digi cam so you can take pictures.

1. Food blows chunks
2. Bring alcohol, it will be more enjoyable
3. View is breath-taking, especially when not a typical LA smoggyass day.

My mom dragged me around that hellish joint a ridiculous amount of times when I was a child...so I am bitter.🙂

Definitely a good thing to do with a chick. Parking structure is pretty big, you take a neat little train from there to the campus. Call and see if you still need reservations though. I would plan on at least 6 hours if you want to see EVERYTHING.

  1. Sure, why not.
  2. I took a cab from the Holiday Inn in Brentwood but you could probably reserve a parking spot.
  3. It's a big facility so it'll take a while: half a day would be a good starting point.
  4. It's chilly up there when it's windy, so dress accordingly.
I visited there opening month or so, but haven't been back yet. I'm not much for art, but it's a worthwhile trip.

actually not many people know this but there is a place near westwood that you can park for free and take a shuttle to the getty museum for FREE. it's really nice and convenient and FREE. hehe. i forgot what street it's on but whenever i go to the getty my friends and i park there. the museum is usually not that crowded so i wouldn't worry about having trouble getting in.

when it comes to art...i think the getty is kinda boring....and most people will agree. but the amazing part about the getty is more the building structure and the view. it really is a pretty place and costs nothing to get in! i've been to the getty several times and usually it takes me several hours to go through the whole thing. i skip a lot of the boring exhibits though and usually hang out at any special ones they have that month or the balconies with the cool view or the garden. i think it's a great date place!

A movie, roaring fire, some wine, an aged bree...You know..

Thanks, but did that last weekend! Now she's good to go after a Happy Meal!

Thanks to everyone else too. Y'all talked me into it. I got parking reservation no problem around noon. I figure if I leave by 4:00 on a Friday, I should make it ~16 miles to downtown LA by 7:30 tipoff......*sigh*

The new one on the hill or the original one in Malibu? I thought you were an old fart, johnlee... far removed from childhood in age but not in spirit. 😛

the art collection itself is pretty mediocre, but it is a great place to take a date to just check out the architecture and scenery...as long as there isn't smog obstructing the views that day.

another option if you are just looking to fill some time and do something semi fun is check out the botanical garden Text

ive been there twice, once i went because i had time to kill before goin to the staples center for a game. my gf loved it. its a beautiful place
