Rain, I think I am the last person you should be lecturing about driving the debate, especially on this thread, before the one you responded too I had made one comment, and that was asking Tech's for his solution.Originally posted by: Rainsford
YOU are the one driving the debate into the floor. Well, not you so much as you and the rest of your righty buddies. Instead of being able to have a reasonable discussion about the validity of ANY solution to any problem, we get this frat-boy bully nonsense about "where's your solution?". I'm not sure what kind of debate we're having here, but ideas don't suddenly become better because they are the only solution presented at the time. A lot of the time it's better to simply reject a bad idea, then worry about coming up with a better one. The alternative is doing things like invading Iraq, which was a terrible idea, but it was the first thing that popped into Bush's mind as what to do next in the war on terrorism...so clearly it must have been just a FANTASTIC idea, right?
For what it's worth, I actually like the idea of dealing with North Korea by putting pressure on China. China is emerging as a real world power, it's time they stopped acting like some two-bit dictatorship and actually started pulling their weight in the international community. But your guys style of "debate" is quite possibly the most annoying thing about P&N, and unfortunately overshadowed any chance at having a real discussion on the topic.
Now if you think we should all just start threads by bitching about things we don't like without offering any ideas or solutions then fine, have at it. But I think honest and open debate starts with at least offering some ideas of your own. Despite the fact that you may disagree with my ideas, I do at least offer them, which is more than half the posters on P&N do.
I think we are actually closer on this NK thing than you may think. There are a LOT of people on here who understand the key to this whole thing is China. That is how we can apply pressure to NK and therefore bring about a solution.
It seems the only hope we have to bring NK to its knees, and in doing so cause the starvation of thousands of people, or we try a military response and hope we can take Kim and his weapons out. Right now the military response is off the table, and only time will tell if pressure actually works.
Finally, lil Kim seems to be an irrational person. He spends billions of dollars on his military every year while thousands of people starve to death. Then he sets off a test Nuke, knowing that everyone in the world has demand he not do so, even China told them not to do it. I do not see any plan to solve this problem that involves working with him. The only solution I see is Kim essentially "surrendering" where he allows broad inspections and agrees to cut back on his arms trade and in response we provide economic and food aid.
If anyone else has a better idea I would LOVE to hear it.
