So, bought me a new black Mustang on Monday...

And a yellow car door dinged me yesterday on Thurdsay. So yeah, they got a nice rub of paint on the spot.

What are your "home remedy" solutions for this type of stuff?

By never willingly parking closer to another vehicle than this:

If such an option isn't available, back of the parking lot where it is empty it is.

It doesn't ensure you never get a ding, but it is all statistics, and you can minimize your chances.

edit: my point is, there are going to be people who have no respect for your property in a public place. It's unfortunate, and sad, and I hate it, but it's true. It doesn't matter what vehicle I'm in, if something is too close, I use my own hand as a separator to avoid hitting other cars, but sadly, not everyone is that respectful of others' property.

Exactly. My wife has never had a ding on her Mustang (2011 Mustang bought in 2010). Why? Because she parks her car FAR away from the others. If you park your car with the pack of morons out there, it is only a matter of time before some idiot dings your door.

Or if you commute / shop with / daily this car, consider this your ding cherry being popped and you'll stop worrying from now on about "When will I get my first ding/scratch?!?"

I remember a story of dirt bike racers getting their expensive Troy Lee helmets and immediately picking up a rock and scratching them so that they got that anticipation over with.

Or yeah, park far away to prevent this from ever happening. Up to you.

Hell, I have a ding in the chrome molding below a window, on the top of the rear driver's side door. How the hell does some random person ding just that part of the door and not the big flat piece of sheet metal actually facing their car?

Parking too far away is also a bad idea, as that's where the youths will tip it over and light it on fire 😉

I don't see the point in getting too hung up over a few small things. But then I have to park outside, in a crowded spot, on in the 18 months I've had my car, there's been many loving caresses to the rear bumper, a ding in the door on one side, and a little scratch in the other. That's city living. I don't attend beauty contests with my car though.

^ I have never had an issue, I park back but not totally in the boondocks. I usually do have some random car park next to me though.

Get Meguairs Scratch X 2.0 will remove the paint transfer right up.

I've heard rubbing compound works pretty well, as does buffing. In extreme cases I've heard that paint thinner works well (assuming your paint is fully-cured OEM paint) and you should avoid leaving the paint thinner on your car, obviously.

I parked in a dark corner far away from others in the city and someone kicked my fucking car. You can't avoid these assholes so every time you park just hope nobody dings you or hits your car.

nail polish remover works well, i had this problem last year. just wash it off when you're done / don't use too much.

Scratch X 2.0 should do the trick especially if it's just their paint over yours. If not there's the M105 stuff from Meguiars which is stronger but works really well.

Post a pic if you can.

Sorry guys got slammed busy at work and just got home... I'll post a pic when I can.

After looking at it again in the day light, I was able to get most off just by softly "scraping" at the yellow without pushing down. The yellow is still in there but you really have to look close.

So now I want to at least try and get a little bit more of the yellow out, but its at least to the point where I can't notice it without bending down.

That said, even though it is a 2013 I bought it used so the last guy gave me quite a few marks to look at. I'm not overly paranoid, but I'd like to at least try and make it look better if its not too much work / going to make it look worse. This one was just bad enough with the yellow at first that I noticed it right away.

Also thankfully no dent was made that I can tell, just lots of small scratches.

Not saying nothing will happen if you park away from others, but your odds are MUCH better than parking between two cars.

Hey guys thanks for the suggestions - if you can, link a product you suggest or one that would work. Outside of that my only option is to fall for advertising when I google around...

I park my Camaro SS in the back of the lot always. But don't be a one of those douche bags that take up multiple spots. You are just begging to get your car messed with.

And never take it to Walmart. That is the worst.

Also, look at the slope of the parking lot. You can park far away from all the cars, but it it's downhill, you could easily be the target of a rogue shopping cart going faster and faster and faster.

Doesn't work. Believe me, I've tried it. I'll park in the most remote corner of an empty lot, and they'll always be a banged up minivan parked too close to me when I get back. 😛

I've parked in the back row. No other cars for 10 rows. And came out to find someone right next to me with no others cars around. That should be grounds for immediate castration.

Got that beat.

2013 Fusion Ti, 2 weeks old (the was made to order), on a Sunday I stop into work for 3 hours. Completely empty and I mean empty parking lot. So I park a little close to the front, but its an empty lot on a Sunday, what harm can befall me right? In that three hours a car managed to park next to mine in a full lot, put one hell of a door ding (guess it was near the max extension of his door so it could get a considerable two contact point scratch on my car) and then leave before I got back out.
