so ATOT, what did you give up for lent?

Not Catholic so nothing. I have seen a bunch of people giving up Facebook. That to me is a joke. I did have a friend who tired to give up fapping and it took him 3 years to make all 40 days.

I gave up my religion for lent, which conveniently means I can do whatever the fuck I want for lent

I strongly recommend you try it next year

Explain this gluten stuff to me. It seems like the new lactose intolerance. SUDDENLY food that never gave anyone a problem is the devil. What gives?

No idea, but was at the gastroenterologist five times last year and he said to give it a try and see if it helped out. It has so far and whether it's psycho-somatic or not, I don't really care at this point to be honest.

I'm not insane about it or anything (i'll still have a beer on occasion for example) and if I am out for dinner, I just make it work with what's on the menu and don't bother the server to see if they can remove this or that because I hate being that guy.

I've been gluten free since January. My bowels are singing!

Isn't that a bad thing though? I'd rather my bowels keep quiet.

It's not that uncommon, something like 1 in every 100-200 people has gluten intolerance. Varies based on just how intolerant they are. Also the symptoms are really difficult to diagnose since in many cases, they've been with a person for as long as they can remember. We have so much gluten in our diets that there's basically never a time when we go without it for more than a day, and if you're used to having an upset stomach/bowels all the time you might think of that as "normal."

It is becoming kind of a fad though, just like lactose intolerance. There are a lot of people jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon for no reason other than it's popular these days. In recent years, there have been a lot of improvements in gluten-free foods so that's always nice. People who are legitimately gluten intolerant had to deal with some really shitty food for a long time.

WTF? You're addicted to chapstick? :hmm:

I had a strong chapstick/lip balm addiction for a great many years. It began when my dermatologist put me on Accutane. Shit worked for acne, but chapped my lips something fierce. Couldn't break out of the chapstick habit even after I quit the Accutane.

Gradually, I weened myself off it, and it wasn't even a particularly conscious endeavor. I just used it less and less until now I hardly ever use except when my lips are legitimately chapped -- and sometimes not even then.
