ok, sorry if this is a noob Q, but I'm a noob to usenet. in the past I always passed it off as unnecessary with web forums. but recently I've given it a better chance and I realized that it has a lot of advantages.

anyway, something that seems to be missing from usenet is the very large groups of misc people that talk about anything, like you get on web fourms. ex: ATOT

is that correct? or are there indeed some groups similar to the style of ATOT and other off topic web forums?

Besides being a great way to get porn and downloads, Usenet is great information resource. Microsoft has a ton of newsgroups for their products. It's probably the best way to get an answer from them there is.

Best place for answers to gardening questions= rec.gardens and its derivatives (don't forget rec.ponds for water gardens)

Best place for answers to home repair questions= alt.home.repair
