got this email this morning :/

Dear xxxxx (xxxxxx@xxx.xxx),

It appears your account was taken over by a third party, and used to place several unauthorized listings. Additionally, the email address on your account may have been tampered with, which is why you may not have received an email about these listings. We have restored your eBay account at this time.

Please complete the following instructions to regain control of your account:

First, please change the password on your EMAIL account to verify that it is secure and cannot be accessed by anyone other than you.

got it done this morning... some guy with some email address from spain did it.

ARe you sure the email is not itself a Spoof or scam email. I've gotten ones that asks me to change my password or reenter my password cos it was expired.
Best of luck in either case.

Below is the email I received with a subject heading of: AuctionStealer Security Update - Please Read Immediately! from security@seefusiontech.com

I checked the url listed in the email and it seems identical to the one if you start from ebay.com. I'd also like to know others are thinking of this.

**********

Dear xxxxxx (xxxx),

Some of our users received an email stating that your credit card
information has been stolen. Rest assured, this information has not been
jeopardized. It is not even stored in our system. However, some eBay
passwords may have been revealed to a third party.

Internet fraud and piracy have become common and are, unfortunately,
risks to companies and individuals alike. In February of 2003, the
Slammer Worm (virus) caused major problems for both large and small internet
companies and services across the world. AuctionStealer was not
exempt. During that time, we discovered an active attack against our system
and informed our customers of this issue. We acted quickly and closed
down the threat. While we were successful in preventing any additional
encroachment, we have recently discovered that some of our data was
compromised. This was the case with many companies.

Upon resolving the issues with the virus, companies all over had to
reassess their security measures and policies and take steps to prevent
this situation or a similar one from reoccurring. For your protection,
we?ve taken the time to perform a security audit against network
infrastructure, servers, and applications. We?ve determined that there are no
current security holes and the last point at which any existed was
approximately four months ago. We took additional steps to improve our
existing security measures and performance. There are no security
deficiencies that would put your information and our systems at risk.

As an individual, you also can take action. The solution to your
potential problem is simple. CHANGE YOUR EBAY PASSWORD TODAY! (or any other
password that is the same as your eBay password) This is quick and
easy and will ensure that you, personally, are not at risk.

Below are the steps required to change your eBay password:

-- Go to http://signin.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn

-- Login to your account with your current login username and password

-- Click on the Preferences tab

-- Click on the ?Change my Password? link (You may need to login
again)

-- Enter your new password, confirm your new password, and then submit
the form.

-- You will receive an email from eBay confirming your password change
shortly

In closing, we are a good and honest company. We will always do
everything we can to protect our customers and the integrity of our
corporation. Please contact us if you have any questions, and we will be happy
to assist you.

Sincerely,

AuctionStealer Network Security Team
