So, anyone want to be mummified after they die?

Personally, I'd prefer a green burial myself. But its fascinating to see corpses thousands of years old, pulled from the ice or from desert sands, and still be almost recognizable.

Thoughts?

I want to be cryogenically frozen so that I can be revived in the future when the technology is available. Does that count?

Nah. I'm still pretty sure I won't be dying. If by chance I do depart, they can just leave me where I fall for all I care.

I'm not important enough to be remembered in 1000 years.

I bet the peat bog men thought the same time. Same with the ancient Egyptian workers. Or the ice men found in glaciers.

Today, they're incredible time capsules and museum pieces. 😛

Encase my body in amber. Should be more effective. Then in about 1000 years my DNA can be extracted for cloning.

Not mummified, but would consider doing the "Bodies" exhibit; they need a dead white guy in the exhibit instead of Chinese political prisoners.

I thought we lost the art of mummification...

Maybe some of the finer points, but you can just dyhydrate a body and soak it in methyl alcohol and you'll get a lot of preservation.

Wonder how the plastination treated bodies will hold up to time?

There's a company in Glasgow that will turn you into goo. The latest trend in eco-burial.

The system works by submerging the body in a solution of water and potassium hydroxide which is pressurised to 10 atmospheres and heated to 180C for between two-and-a-half and three hours.
Yum. Pulled pork and Mowbray pies. Must be how they make Soylent Green. Hmm, but it get's more interesting.

Body tissue is dissolved and the liquid poured into the municipal water system. Mr Sullivan, a biochemist by training, says tests have proven the effluent is sterile and contains no DNA, and poses no environmental risk.

Grandpa wanted a burial at sea. The sewer seems somewhat less dignified. He's floating with the turds in heaven now. 😛

I just want to make sure my penis is frozen for when they can bring me back.

I'm told that this is where my brain, eyes and other head related items can be found.

I do. I want someone in 1000 years to find my body and think "Wow, he was hung like a horse".

That's assuming mummification doesn't shrink your penis. I haven't looked into this yet.

Uh, the civic officials let them poor the goop into the city water supply? Also, pass.

The penis has no bones, consists entirely of skin, blood vessels, and other soft tissue. Pretty sure it'd shrivel up to something smaller than a pencil.

I'll let my survivors do what they want with my body. Its more important for them to be happy. I'll be dead, what do I care anyway?

you'd have to be encased while alive, and even then, the DNA degrades so substantially that it would be quite difficult.

if you wait to die before encased in amber, the DNA would be mostly useless in 1000 years.

...for cloning purposes, anyway. well....today it would be. :hmm:

No thank you, I don't want my brain extracted through my nose. I'll just go the Force Ghost route and fade away, all cool like.

Just want to be buried in a nice shallow grave. That way I will have an easy escape during the zombie apocolypse to eat your brains.
