I want to get one, I have had my current DC for about 4 years now  It's time to upgrade. I have heard many a good things about this camera what do you think. Please don't reply with oh you should get a ***** instead. I want people who have used a SD400 in real life. I really like the looks of this camera and it's features.

UPDATE:

I bought the SD400 but I am considering the Nikon coolpix 7600 it's cheaper (by about $50) and is 7.1MP

What do you think?

UPDATE2:

Ok I want the SD500 instead I think. It has more MP, a better flash, more battery strength, and a bigger lens. ARGGGG I'm confused. I love this sd400 but I think the sd500 is a better choice.

I just bought a SD200. Any reason you feel you need the 5 megapixels? I honestly think for most people between 3-4 is enough, which is what I advised my sister when she wanted a SD500. The only thing that worried me about the SD series was it's LCD, which seems to be fairly prone to breaking really randomly soon after getting it, but Canon apparently has become better at fixing it for free.

Good question. Well the reason is my current camera is a 1.3 MP  and if I buy this camera I plan for it to be my only camera for the next 3-4 years. So I might as well go 5 MP.

Too bad you missed out on the Dell SD400 deal the had the other day. $310~ for a 512mb card, or $370~ for a 1gb card.

I have an SD300 and it is a great camera. Practically the same thing except it is "only" 4.0mp. Honestly, I don't understand the whole megapixel craze. 4.0 is more than big enough (so was the 3.2 in my old camera). If it is bigger than 1600x1200, its too big!

I own an SD200, but want the 400/500. I take lots of pics in which I'd like the option to make 11x14 prints. The 3.2MP does fine on 8x10s if the lighting was perfect, but more is always better in case.

Couldn't recommend it more; my camera has been banged up, dropped, tossed all over the world, and still snaps like a champ. LCD is scratched up some, but never broke on me, and when turned on it looks brand new. Get one! :)

i have the sd300. nice camera, does amazing macro's for a compact. i agree that i don't think the sd400 is necessary.

My friend got in on that deal, then complained when they said it would take 3-4 weeks to ship. So they gave him a $75 off coupon AND shipped it within a few days.

More megapixels are cool because you *can* crop the hell out of your pictures if you need to...I wish I had more than a 3.2MP camera sometimes just for greating cropping abilities.

Dell's inventory system isn't the most accurate and they ALWAYS overshoot the estimated ship date.

IIRC the Nikon 7600 uses the same sensor as the 5600 yet it Packs more pixels. This will produce more "noise" and IMO the sd400 is a much better camera. Id stick with your buy.

Thank you, one of the things I am concerned with is the Flash strength, it is kinda weak.
but the video mode is top notch.

I am contemplating trading it for a SD500. I love it but I just want to make the right purchase.

Mind you my previous Digital camera was an Olympus 1.2 MP :Q

SD400 = :thumbsup:

nikon is good too. but don't regret your decision. both are good.

i actually prefer canons for point-and-shoot and nikons for SLR. i have a canon s500 and an S2 IS, as well as a nikon D70.

Yeah, cropping a 1600x1200 pic to fit a 4x6 print (sony photo printer) reveals the limitations of the camera. This has got to be one of the few times a printer has more resolution then the camera!

The funny thing is, the printer is only 403 dpi.

Both are good cameras. I have the 5900. I wanted the SD500 but it was too expensive and went with the 5900.

The 7600 will give you better quality pics. It has more megapixels and more importantly, it has a larger sensor size (1/1.8" vs 1/2.5" of the SD400). Also, it won't exhibit corner blurriness during zooms (which I've read is a common but not huge deal with the SD400).

BUT the 7600 isn't as good as the SD400 when it comes to fitting in your pocket. I was able to carry the 5900 in my jeans but it wasn't too comfortable and I rubbed away some of the silver coloring on the directional pad. Also, my 5900 doesn't have a 3:2 option. since the 5900 doesn't have that option, I doubt that the 7600 has it (it's a real btch to go through nearly 200 pics and re-cropping them, even with software that makes it easy to do it).

Both are very good cameras and most people would be happy with either one. IMO, the SD400 has a better form factor and the 7600 has better picture quality.

edit: I saw you mentioned the SD500... that camera has a great form factor, the larger 1/1.8" image sensor, 7 megapixels, and maybe 3:2 ratio. But it's expensive.
