I noticed that DirecTV added this station to my subscription and I've seen a couple commercials for it already. It is on channel 358 but I haven't checked it out yet.

Thoughts? Comments?

I have been visiting the Al Jezeera website for well over a year.

My thoughts on Al Jezeera?

They offer real news, news that cnn and fox news would not touch with a 10 foot pole.

I have Dish and looks like they've picked it up too. AJ ads are all over the other cable news channels.

I've surfed over a few times but they've always had commercials on, which I find odd since the first thing I read about AJ was they no very little-to-no sponsors/ads.

In any case I haven't seen much of it yet.

No thanks, I'm glad TWC is not carrying them, I'll pass. I did read somewhere that their ratings have been pretty anemic, but not surprising for such a new channel.

Everybody who tunes in gets added to a list at the NSA...

guess i am on NSA list then..

I watched it the other night. it seemed straight foreword and haven't really seen any slant like you get with MSNBC/fox.

seems to be the general sentiment from those that watch it. I don't have cable, otherwise I would give it a shot.

I believe they also promise to run no more than 3 or 4 min of ads per hour, compared to Fox and CNN running 15+ minutes of advertising per hour.

They've also hired tons and tons of journalists that fled the various news networks over the years, as the networks have long been ditching journalism and reformatting for entertainment yakking mouths (the Bill O'Reilly's Hannity's, Keith Olbermans, Matthews, etc)

I watched a few hours today.

It reminds me of BBC news I watched in Europe. That's a good thing.

I suspect that if anyone watched this as their primary news source that they would not be less informed than people get their news from primarily The Daily Show. :p

Also not enough assholes on there yet feigning that they are journalists.

I have sometimes gone to the website starting a year or two ago. I will check out the actual station now.

I was pretty biased against them some years back, but having travelled a bunch overseas more recently I've noticed that their quality and neutrality is actually pretty good.

I doubt it would take much to outdo the standard American news channels.

We have Dish Network on the TV's at my workplace's cafeteria and since CNN is unavailable on the basic package, my only news option at lunchtime (evening) is Russia Today and now Al Jazeera. I'm not a real big fan of RT. I haven't seen enough of Al Jazeera's American edition to judge yet.

I had no idea they were on FiOS. Will definitely add their channel to my favs so I can start watching some real, actual news instead of the US soap operas they call news these days.

I agree with the previous poster who said it was like the BBC, seemd to be more focused on reporting the facts than trying to entertain like most US "news" outlets.

Popped into this thread to see what sort of nonsense Incorruptible would spout, and I was not disappointed.

Haven't seen it yet, but have listened to their radio version. The comparisions to the BBC are pretty much on target. If the TV version is of comparable quality this will be a much needed breath of fresh air. Far too much of American cable news is histronic theatrics or trash news (which starlet is overdosing this week type news).

I've had AJ english for couple of years since getting fios and its actually quite decent. Its not news all day or a bunch of folks yelling at each other like the american networks, ie pundit shows.

The documentaries are pretty cool, lots of non political stuff, my favorite was the history of falconeering. Wish the Animal channel had stuff like that.
