So, any guidelines for using touch-up paint?

My car has several shallow scratches and one rather deep one that I want to touch-up paint over. The car is about 6 years old, so the paint is still in pretty good shape but the several scratches really hurt it's appearance. I was going to buy 2 oz of touch-up paint + clearcoat online and match the paint code, so does anyone have any guidelines on how to apply it beyond what is stated in the directions?

I'm probably going to give it a hard wax beforehand to prevent any problems. Other than that, I'm looking for any other suggestions to make this work.

I don't think you should wax it first.. wouldn't the paint just be ontop of the wax then? Maybe I'm wrong..
I've used touch up paint before, and all I ever did was wash the spot, then touch it up as per directions. I've always had good results this way.

1. REMOVE THE WAX!!
2. Clean area
3. Primer
4. Wet sand it down
5. Use paint(2-3 coats is what I do)
6. Wet sand it down
7. Clear coat
8. Wet sand it down

You will need at least 2000 grit sand paper for this.

I used it (came with the car) thinking it would actually match the color tone. It doesn't. I practically made it look worse, if you look closely. I would advise against it unless it already looks pretty terrible.

I used some more on an obscure spot on the roof of the car and the touch-up paint comes out black now (10 years later)... but it came out looking pretty symmetrical as if it belonged... (had to do 2 sides) and it goes well with the gray anyway... I guess it worked out this time around.

Use brake fluid first ...

Brake fluid is the best paint remover ever .... then again the DOT5 is pretty safe ...
