So AMD will release 3600+, does that mean they'll keep the 3800 price at around $250-300 brand new?

I think that's a stupid move. I guess the cost to produce the 3800 was just way too much to let it drop down to $150.00 or something. 3600, less cache, whack. What is your opinion?

The 3800+ X2 (which I assume you are talking about based on the 250-300 price) already only has 512kb of cache per core....Is the 3600 still a 2ghz chip or a 1.8ghz chip like the 165 opteron with the 512kb of cache per core?

AMD needs to price this 3600+ in the 150 range....3800+ no higher then 199....A 3600+ Am2 may be a steal ocer though...

3600+ is a 2 ghz chip, hopefully the 3800+ is $150 after price cuts and this 3600+ is around $125! :D

OK I see.....In that case I would definitely need to see it in the 140 or below range and direct competition against the 805 and 915....

To me this is just a dual core sempron...

To those who dont think cache makes a difference needa refresher coasre in benchmarks between semprons versus regular A64's....cache makes a differnec especially in this 256-512 range...less so in the 512 to 1mb range....However you look at benches and 4mb of cache of the conroe does quite nicely over the 2mb of cache....Definitely low-end.

and how many users actually use benchmarks for fun? "OMG my SuperPi is so much slower from going 3800+ to 3600+! My 3DMark06 score dropped more than 150 points! OMG!" benchmarks are benchmarks. real world is real world. I highly doubt it will have that huge of an impact on performance in the end.

When Anand benched the S754 Semprons vs. A64 chips, the bench difference in most apps was 3-5%, going up to 8%. I figure 5-8% still sounds about spot on, and I think it's worth saving ~$30-$40.

If I can't get the E4200 in a couple months, I'm getting this temporarily, unless the X2 3800+ 35W chip drops drastically in price, which I doubt.
