So its move out time for college students... lots of crap on the streets to go through and play with. My best friend and I are out and we find a computer on the curb. We take it home and find out is a cyrix 100mhz machine... worthless... so we decide to go "office space" on it. Long story short we beat it with a hammer and bat for about 15 minutes. My buddy actually broke the bat in 2. So we are looking for more crap to play with and I find a crappy canon printer. My buddy tosses it to me, I run for about 20 yards, do a touchdown dance and spike it into the sidewalk, then to look up to a cop sittin in his car 10 feet away. 4 cop cars rolled up, questioned us and let us go, which was pretty nice considering that we could have gotten tickets for bein noisey as hell at 12AM.

Cliff notes: Found a printer and crappy computer in the the trash, busted it up office space style, spiked printer right in front of cop, got off with warning.

Edit: All I can say is that its a good thing that we werent drunk tonite, or there was no way wed get off with a warning.

I picked up all the pieces and put em in a trash bag after the cops let me off with a warning...
Was that the recommended course of action? Or something you just wanted to do?

just something that I wanted to do, after they let me off without writing me a 200 some dollar ticket, and having a mark on my record...

<---- only got a driving ticket once

For what? In all honesty a 100 MHz Cyrix machine is essentially useless, I wouldn't even want to run Windows 95 on one.

I would say the minimum USEFUL computer these days would be 400+ MHz w/128 MB of RAM.

By useful I mean able to run a modern OS + applications.

BTW, ON topic...

I can see MAYBE getting a ticket for noise ordinance violations, but honestly it's not likely - especially in a college town like that. Arrested? Unless you were beating people's cars or something you aren't going to get arrested.

Nah. A P2-300 w/ 256 megs of Ram running Win2k will function just fine for office apps and web browsing. In fact, that's what my wife uses to do all her school work on. Works like a champ.

Hrm, I had a pentium 100 a little while back, it came from gateway with windows 95. I played a lot of cool games on it, did msword, Iexplorer, internet, bleh bleh bleh, etc. They are hardly useless. I know any poorly funded library or school could find a use for it.

I just got done installing Win XP with tons of software on several 300 MHz computers (128 MB RAM) in my office. Runs just fine if you don't mind a long boot time.

Yes, the extra RAM helps a lot. I could probably live with a 300 MHz PII if it had 256 MB or more. For me, though, the lower end of usefulness would be around 400 MHz.

That being said, I consider my parents system to be minimal, & it's a 2000+ with 512 MB of DDR.
